F355 Recall # 48- Fuel Divider Block (Warning)

    A couple of weeks ago I took my 95 F355 into the local Ferrari Dealership for this recall to replace the fuel divider block that could leak petrol causing a fire. I received my car back and after just 1 hour of driving I noticed that the new fuel lines were now rubbing on the engine cover lid strut which , in my mind, is what the recall was suppose to prevent. As you can see from my pictures there is a fair amount of wear on the gas strut after only an hour of use (see Pictures). Eventually the braided line or strut housing will rub through causing damage.

    I advise that if you have had this recall done you should check the workmanship of this recall and if the new lines are rubbing on anything you should take it back and have it rectified.

    The kit is available for purchase from Ricambi and can be installed by anyone competent.

    It won't be free but unless you are near a dealer it will probably cost less at a local shop.

    wow that's interesting...I haven't had mine done yet because I can see there's no rubbing on the hose clamp (purposely rotated it out of the way during the engine out major).

    Is it an easy fix to avoid this new rubbing on the hood strut? Or does the new delivery block change position enough so that's a new problem?

    Yes I agree it would be an easy fix. I think that when you take your car to experts for a recall on a car like a Ferrari it should be done to the high standards that you would expect from a Ferrari dealership. If they cant fix it I will fix it myself.

    I spotted this on a friend of mines car in the UK the pipes are easily moved out of the way to avoid chaffing, admittedly you should not have to but please check and move them yourself.

    Thanks for the warning, I will check mine in the morning.
    I wanted my local independent to do mine but was told that the recall "had to" be done by the Ferrari Dealership due to legal requirements.

    When I first got my 355, the lines were in slight interference with the driver side lid strut. They caused a small wear mark on it. So I got a couple zip ties and pulled them away just enough so they will not rub anything. No problems with rubbing since.

    Though I will take my car in for the recall anyway, just so everything is straight on the records.

    Took it back to dealer due to very minor chafing on the driver's side engine lid strut...much less than pictured by the OP. Corrected in a few minutes....on my way. ;)

    They will do it, just not free like the dealer. Comp can't honor a dealer recall for free... Almost be worth it to pay Richard and Fernando to do it then let some dealers do it for free... You know you are getting a 1st class job with Comp cars..

    I got my fuel block 'recall' job done a few weeks ago and they did a great job!! Fuel lines are not even close to rubbing the struts now :).

    They also installed a very fancy 'heatsheild' over my carbon canister in the R/side rear bumper :eek:. They said it was another factory 355 'campaign' that needed to be done.

    This is what my car looks like after the recall work done by a dealer. You can see the cloth rub strip that has been bonded to the strut as well as one fuel line that may contact the strut is now encased in a plastic wrap.

    I would like to see a pic of that also. I had my fuel lines done a few weeks ago and they didn't say anything about a heat shield. They did do a recall/campain on my OBD plug though that I had never heard of. I guess some cars had problems talking with state emission computers through OBD2 so they did some kind of ground/plug modification.

    Interesting. On my car, once my concern was expressed, they adjusted the routing of the lines so there is no way they can contact the strut, without resorting to the shielding you have. Either way, it works. ;)

    Yup, that is an old recall from about 5 years ago now. Basically Ferrari skipped a ground wire on the plug, so a generic OBDII code scanner could not be used, which is against EPA rules/law (forced you to go to the dealer to read a "check engine" light. It also prevented state emission checks, once states started scanning through OBDII ports rather than using a dynometer and exhaust check. Which started around 2004 or there about...shortly after, then the recall came out. ;)

    Now you can scan all the federally mandated Pcodes if the CE light comes up with a generic scanner. The SD1 and SD2 is more useful, but you can get the basic info with a generic scanner.
