I am reasonably certain that no Ferraris were harmed in the making of that "California." First of all, the shields weren't big enough. that was a joke. The first overt, from-50-feet-away clues are the taillight lenses; early MGB. end of story. I've included a pic of the real deal. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
The wife made it out with me this morning. We had lots of fun talking with everyone. . Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Beautiful day for late July. I thank Michael Bayer for getting me out to these events for the first time. So many beautiful automobiles. I enjoy the fellowship as much as the cars. Not sure if anyone spoke to the young guy who had the 65' VW notchback with the WRX turbo power plant. Seriously, talented and humble guy. Someone needs to snap him up and have him building next gen fighters. Amazing fabrication. Thanks to all who brought their ferraris out. It remains my inspiration to go to work. When I have the space for a 3rd car in the next year I'll finally pull the trigger. Thanks all for continued participation.
I really have to make it out to this event... Just a combination of busy and lazy I guess As always thanks for sharing pics!
Wouldn't you know it... On the day I couldn't make it out there I end up missing The Ariel Atom(s)! It has been the car I've been wanting to see! I have so many questions to ask the owner too. Thanks for the pictures, Bill.
Looks like a mid 80's mustang shifter on the Ferrari fake...maybe a complete 5.0 drivetrain??? I would keep the hood closed also. However the body looks good
Bill: Great pics of a great day! The best way to hear the Dino's sound is to drive it, next trip out you are in that left seat. As to that "thing", I agree with BrianP, whatever is under it was not Ferrari but, it was a truer something than now. It's just sad. By the way, the most beautiful wood steering wheel I have EVER seen is in that blue Alfa Gulietta on the end today, it is absolutely stuning, M
BY THE WAY THOSE ATOMS 2010 Ariel Atom 3 Honda K20 2.0L Engine 1350lbs Curb Weight 0-60 in 2.9 seconds Hum................
Good shot of the TR's side by side Bill. Honestly on that "250", everything was noticably disproportionate. You can pull up a photo on Google similar to Bryan's a quickly notice everything was misrepresented. I'm just glad there's no chance of a real V12 even sitting under the hood, for that alone I respect the man whom conjured up that machine.
Great pictures, everyone. I'll throw a few more on the pile, including that VW Notchback, a great old Rover, and the Unimog. What a great way to start a Saturday morning. Thanks Josh! Honestly...I couldn't tell the proportions of the two, since the last time I saw a 250 California was last year at Cavallino! Still...I guess I could've compared the two pictures. By the way, I hope to meet you at a future event? Perhaps I can come by and see your shop sometime? Were you driving the other TR? Zack, you and BethAnne need to come and spend a weekend in Washington so you can catch one of our C&C's. That's a DEAL!!! I look forward to it! Thanks Michael.
It was a killer lineup this weekend. Favorite: the white 599 HGTE was absolutely stunning, real nice guy who owned it. Was also impressed by the LP570-4 Superleggera, the Ariel Atoms (first time I'd seen one - INSANE car), and that beautiful F40. Also was the black 250 convertible around the back a 250PF Cabriolet?
Beautiful cars! My wife and I will be in the DC area starting Sunday August 8th... where is this C&C and will it be going on Saturday August 14th? Shiny Side Up! Bill
It's at Katie's Coffee House in the Great Falls Village shopping center, from 7-9AM through the last weekend in October. Here's a link with the address and a map: http://maps.google.com/places/us/va/great-falls/walker-rd/760/-katie%27s-coffee-house?hl=en&gl=us
Andrew, That is what we're discussing. It's supposed to be a replica of a 250 California Spyder. Definitely NOT a real Ferrari. Bill P.
Hey Bill, PM me your email address and I'll send you my contact information. We can meet at the Cars and Coffee on 8/14 and I will introduce you to some of the FChat regulars. Bill P.
It's an early CalSpyder car. CalSpyder is the company that made the Ferris Bueller car. You can tell it's an early car as it has a Fiat Spider windshield and front vent windows. I think they utilized the side windows and top mechanism too. The grill is also all wrong, too oval. The newer Calspyder cars have a more realistic looking windshield and side window/top treatment. Most cars do utilize a Mustang sourced 5.0 and 5-speed. Don't get me wrong, I love those cars, and would gladly own one, but without the Ferrari badging. They appear to be very well engineered and I would bet they are a blast to drive! Shiny Side Up! Bill
That's what I love about Ferraris Bill, even the styling requires intimate knowledge...not just the mechanicals! I'll be at Katie's this Saturday, most likely with the TR again (sitting next to Al's in your photo)...still shaking out some bugs. I'll make it a point to touch base with you this weekend. My doors are always open as well, you're more than welcome to come by anytime (most of the time I'm there anyways!).
Bill.. I would have to agree with you... I can only imagine them being a blast to drive, they got the look (close enough anyway), besides.. if you had a real one how often would you really use it? This one you can take down to the grocery store, etc.. P-
The weather is shaping up to be good Sat morning and I'm down for a lil cafe and exhaust fumes, who's in?
