Ciao All, Since doing lots of small restorations on my Vignale, I decided to take the inside carpet off a little further, like under the driver's seat... Took the seat off and to my surprise in the structural holes, the factory didn't even bothered to clean the left over mess up... They simply glues the carpet right on top of it and forgot about it... Rubbish, such as lots of metal shavings, bolts, nuts, body work spikes, rods of lead, all left in there, not caring... Very annoying since keeping moist in, encouraging rust, a real pain, I vacuumed it right out and treated the whole thing with anti rust and then some strong tar... Funny to know that the 3500GT was meant for luxurious Touring in fancy places such as St Tropez, Monaco and that all the owners were in fact touring sitting on a pile of rubbish... Carlo, that is interesting. I have not come across anything like that while refreshing mine. Since it is a handbuilt car, I wonder if the guy that was working on it had a fight with his wife, the night before he did the shoddy work on your's. I saw a picture of your car in another post...it looks amazing.
Many Thanks,... lol he probably did..... the fun part when working on old classics, they always tell an interesting, sometimes unknown story ...
I doubt it, since the car is a first owner and has never been tinkered with, it was left in a garage for years, unfortunately my dad never had any passion for it... The lead rods found were used for somekind of bonding soldering and you can also see these small punches, used to build the body of the car arround its frame if I'm not mistaken... Cheers Carlo
Years ago John Apen told me a story of finding a street sign as part of the steel in the trunk of an old Ferrari. There was a time that all of these cars were just that, cars.
Or maybe a little too much vino the night before? I have a 1979 Merak and I have also found little bits and pieces but nothing like that. Most of the unmolested cars I have worked on have had the odd screw, nut or bolt. Even found a cigarette package which could only have been put in that location at the factory. Yes hand built cars are special!
