As UConn Husky said, this is interesting. If I understand correctly, Gothspeed has installed his own plate to shield the Fuel Vapor Filter (148413). The WSM shows a cover referred to as a Vapor Filter Protection (163533) but I have never seen it fitted to any of the cars I have looked at - admittedly I have only looked at a few other 355's. My car certainly does not have the protection fitted. Are some dealers fitting the Protection as part of a recall? It obviously has nothing to do with the chafing of the fuel lines.................. I don't know why what appears to be a standard part (shown as such in the WSM) is not fitted to each and every car and I am not even sure what protection 163533 is meant to afford. I suppose that this breathing system needs to be as far from the heat under the engine lid as possible (which it is) but covering it seems counter intuative. Does anyone have the part (TAV11, ref 39, part no 163533) fitted as standard? Any views on whether the cover is there to deal with shock, spark arrest (!), heat, odor or whatever...? Is it a regional thing? (no reference as such in the WSM). Last question for anyone who has had the patience to follow this: The maintenance schedule indicates that "activated charcoal filters" should be replaced at 50K kms, 110K kms... Does this mean Fuel Vapor Filter 148413? Thanks for any replies/views.
opps sorry I meant L side ................. here are pics of the "R side" shield ......... .............. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Goth, what is your production month and year and model? Mine is Feb 1997 and spider, and I had this shield when I bought the car used in late 2004.
Okay, so I would suspect that those with a car made from Feb 1997 on, had this from the factory, as mine has had this since Nov 2004 when I bought the car.
Mostly likely just random that it happened after the recall. That code is for an issue with the exhaust bypass valve. Basically the Motronic is sensing the valve is not opening or closing when it should. Diagnosis is to confirm the valve operation is correct. If so, then you need to swap the cat ECU for the center bypass valve with the right side catalyst and see if the code goes away, and you start getting "slow down" light. If so, then you need to replace the cat ecu. Search for P1448 there are lot's of thread on how to diagnose...I had it once. I got mine the opposite way. I first got a "slow down" light for the right side catalyst. Swapped the cat ecu with the center bypass valve cat ecu, and then got the P1448, so I knew I needed a new cat ecu. Ordered from Ricambi America, and all good.
Hi John! Well, I suppose that I've only looked at three or four cars.......Still would like to know why the shield is fitted. I was also hoping that somebody would call Gothspeed's bluff with his LHS, RHS shield, complete with pictures, but no! Together with his other qualities, Goth is clearly a fun guy with a good sense humour. Mr. Rection (best pseudonym around) is in cahoots too! Ron
Thank you for sharing those informations ! I'll have that recall done at the local Ferrari dealer next week. Now I know what to verify when it will be done.
No points for guessing where this fire started... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170539012476&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:MOTORS:1123
