Quite simply in a dilema...I am after one or the other. I so like the look & the feel of the 355, its an absolute classic. I am 6'5" and well lets just say its cosy in there, so I would go for an F1 as I can see I would struggle with moving a clutch about due to space restrictions, which is fine as I have been a flappy paddle man for sometime now anyway.
The 360 undoubtable would be a more upto date car as it were with all that entails, including more space etc...but I just cannot get on with the styling, just cannot look at one & go 'phowwarrr' at all...so the dilema is I want a 355 in my garage,is this the right choice when I can stretch to a decent 360?, am I daft wanting a classic, beautiful looking machine as opposed to a more uptodate but not very good looking one?...talk me into or out of it please chaps!

They made about 45% more 360s than 355s and IMO you are correct, the 355 is far better looking, it is also better sounding and with a few properly placed 'upgrades' can match or surpass 360 HP :)!!!

If Shaq can fit into a 355 (probably w/some 'adjustments'), so can you ;)!!!

360 all the way because it has much more room. Everything else is personal taste.

I'm 6'2 and it was hard for me in a 348/355 so I bought a 360 and love the space

Besides the space advantage, the cost of ownership 'should' be lower due to the engine in belt service. At times this can be offset by a problematic F1 transmission.
However as a 355 owner, there is no comparison in the looks dept.

I think it has to be. I want something 'special' in the garage for the odd fun jaunt. I think the 355 is more me with this decision due to were I am etc in my life, let me explain...basically I am 46 yrs old, have a 3yr old son and a wife. Me, wife & junior tend to go everywhere in a range rover, which is a new one, so its pretty much the default choice for days out etc, perfect vehicle for that. I have a VW golf DSG GTD, which I zap about it, work is only 4 miles away for me, so need for anything else.
Hence what is missing for me, having always generally had a nice fast sports car, is a garage queen there for when I need a quick blast, but also something I really enjoy owning, looking at, polishing etc. This has to be a 355 I think, a 360 would be a better choice if I were going to do more miles etc or didnt have decent other vehicles in the household, quite fancy something a little bit more 'special' with a slight hint of 'vintage; thrown in if you know what I mean!
Did have a lovely 612 one to one last year, but cash & house move meant a change to that, and like I say dont need 4 seats anymore as the RR is for that, this car would be just for little old selfish me!!
Service/maint costs may be a little steep, that I will have to take on the chin. Space wise found a thread about getting a thiner seat cushion, so that could help...I found the legroom ok with the F1 as I could stretch out pretty well..so if I could get an inch extra headroom that would be great, but its not a deal breaker.
There..ive managed to talk myself into It already!...is my logic correct?...or is it flawed?...feel free to let rip, as I appreciate all comments...great forum indeed cheers

You might also look at having a shop remove the seat rails and mount the seat directly to the floor (once you have determined your correct seat position) to get an extra inch or two of headroom. A GTS will make it a ton easier to enter and exit the car with the roof panel removed.

You might want to look into the 550 or TR/512TR. Or, for a real classic from the pre-cheapo-plastic era (though it takes cash to get into vintage), the 330 GTC.

I'm also not a fan of the 360/F430 styling direction -- hasn't aged well at all. (And wasn't great to start.)

TR/Testarossa is even smaller than a 355. The 550 is an excellent choice if you like the GT cars and it has plenty of room.

Bullfighter, I fail to see why you are down on 360/430 the build quality and materails are far better than the previous cars. Unfortunately it has lost its rawness but that is the time.

They have gone from bad handling to race proven technology to produce some of the best handling cars with out the use of all wheel drive .

for the record , i like the old cars and my next one-man will be a high mileage 328

Have you driven a 355 extensively? If so, what model? I'm 6'5 and have zero issues driving GTS and GTB cars. Cozy, yes, but that's a feature, not a bug.

If you want a 355 in your garage, that's the one to get. I too could have gotten a 360 but like you, the 360 just didn't do it for me. I love the looks and feel of driving a 355 (not to mention the sound)!

Just from this post alone you know you want a F355 in your heart. 360 is just a second thought. Read your own post again then you'll see.

Now go out there and get yourself a nice 355 F1 Berlinetta/GTS/Spider and start enjoying driving or just staring at it in your garage. Either way it's the best sounding Ferrari and it's also the best looking one too.

Subjectively, I think the 360 is a badly proportioned car. I suspect, but can't prove, that someone relatively heavy at Pininfarina sat on the front of the car during a doughnut break and they didn't have time to correct it. The ox-yoke front bumper never worked, and the wheels are unbelievably boring. (The CS package wheels are better.) I also think the whole design is too big to be called a sports car. (Recognizing that no one in the 360/F430 section will agree with a word I just typed...)

More objectively, from a quality perspective, the F1 gearbox is still jerky; there is a known variator issue that causes engine failure (at <10,000 miles on friend's car here in San Diego), and the interior plastic still turns to goo on the vents.

The F430 improves on several aspects of the 360 (mostly mechanically), but again it's not on my wanted list.

comparing that to a 328 boring wheels also( but wheels are a matter of opinion) , size , someone must have heard you because the 458 is smaller with much better legs room like the older cars should have been.

sportscars are meant to be manuals ...but americans are lazy and ferrari wanted please us so F1 became more popular.

and on such an expensive can WHY DOES THE INTERIOR STILL turn googy?

Can't say I totally disagree with you Bullfighter.

Good question, that is just ridiculous. Driving my Chevelle on saturday (which is 40yrs old) I was looking around pleasantly at all of the parts that weren't melting.

I drove my F355 on sunday and while I don't have any melting parts, the hvac controls need a new overlay.

Bite your tongue!! 328 wheels were the last great Ferrari road wheels, an all-time classic. Daytona version was even better! ;)

355 wheels are sharp, but those old five-spoke Cromodoras scream "Ferrari" like nothing else.

    </useless unsolicited wheel rant>

    Way true!

355 wheels are quite good too. Just need a bit of a lip on them.

Your so right. Sometimes I swear the front end is wider than the back on the 360. The 430 is much the same. They are much too bulky. The 458 is a wonderful car and has brought back Ferrari to where they should always have been.
Now back to the 355. The reason why so many put up with the gooey bits and the melting headers, the valve guides and a couple of other things is because once these problems are solved, you cant find a better car period.

I used to base buying decisions purely off of the numbers. Which was faster and more modd-able.

Coming from 1000+hp turbo cars it's hard to describe to my friends how a "slow" F355 can be so much fun. The sound, the feel, the look of the car is just so unique and enjoyable.

Listen to Jon, he says good things!! :)

    +288 GTO ..... :)

The 360 is not very attractive and the 430 got worse. The 355 has it all!! :D
+355 ........ I had some fairly hi-HP turbo and TT p-cars and the 355 trumps them all with far less HP .......
