Fluffy says his mate saw the same one (I guess) in Wanchai, Star Street. Was it Giallo Fly or that pearlescent yellow. I saw one in pearl at Le Mans, it was a really deep colour.

Had an enjoyable but rather sweaty walk around Mong Kok, the harbour and Central last night. Nothing exotic about but if modified Japanese cars are your bag then you'll probably find something you like. Immaculate AE86 was a nice surprise...

fourfiveeight (don't kill me for the composition of the pic, I was more concerned about getting a pic at all) - thie car really has to be seen in real life to appreciate it, pics and vids don't do it justice. Even though I only saw it for a few seconds :D

No. Customers car. On t-plate because type approval in process and car cannot be registered yet

I presume Type Approval is like getting an Alcohol Licence for a Bar or Restaurant? Lots of "Hoops" and "Red tape", when in reality and in the end they just accept overseas test data.....so at least they dont need to crash test a 458 in HK!!

In the telecoms business I am in, OFTA, the local Telecoms regulator does not do any testing on GSM/3G phones. If they are approved in Europe, they automaticaly have approval for use here. I wonder what more proof they need than European approvals for a car here?
    The long slow rubber stamp?

Must be. Seems crazy. I guess there are reality checks - some cars approved overseas and rejected here such at KTM Crossbow and Ariel Atom

Do you know what the reasoning for not allowing the Atom or X-Bow on the roads? Is it something to do with the lack of windscreen or the semi-open wheels? Whatever, it's a real shame. It seems crazy that the stringent European approvals aren't good enough for the HKTD, what more could they possibly want. I feel a petition coming on...

Probably a bit like powered skateboards or the Segway. Neither can be approved or licenced here because they can't find a matching "pigeon hole" to categorise them and they fail for some tiny little clause in the regulations.....and of course too much touble to change the regulation to make it possible for the consumer.

... again, petition! I mean come on, these cars have less bodywork which means they're light and use less resources and fuel and they're open to the elements which means you don't need aircon - which should keep the environmentalists happy. And all the while the government can pocket the stratospheric import duty. Win, win, win!

There were pictures of an Xbow taken in Central I believe. The driver was wearing a helmet. I saw a Lotus 2-Eleven in Sai Kung with the driver wearing a helmet too. I believe these all had T-plates.

Thinking about it, it must be something to do with lack of windscreen as I have seen both these road registered here in all their semi-open wheeled glory:

Alternatively once an accident happens the government will be screwed for allowing such 'dangerous' cars. Then again, no one shouts at the government when a speeding Ferrari or Lambo crashes...

X-Bow pic I saw was in Luk Keng IIRC.

... buses, minibuses, taxis. An X-Bow or Atom is far less of a danger to pedestrians, the driver and other road users than either of the former. It is fortunate for us that our public transport is driven so responsibly ................

Buses and taxis aren't too dreadful (taxis is pushing it here). Minibuses, on the other hand...

OK, buses I agree, and in general taxi drivers are decent (and have you seen how much the license is?!?) But on the other hand I was in a taxi when the driver actually fell asleep driving up a hill.... Really. The cab slowed to a stop then began rolling back down the not unsteep hill. Fortunately he wasn't a heavy sleeper and the road was clear! It would have been a whole lot messier if I was sleeping too. I was also in a cab when without looking the driver pulled straight across three lanes of traffic straight into the side of another cab - the ride had lasted all of 3 seconds resulting in a full blown verbal argument between the two that lasted for 10 minutes before I decided to find another taxi. Sometimes I do wonder how some of these guys passed (if they even did) their driving tests. You'd think as a full time job you'd be pretty good at it after a while.

Minibuses are a whole different thing. I think a requirement of an HK minibus driver is 'Must have had full frontal lobotomy'. I remember hitting almost 130 KPH in the Western Tunnel once. In rush hour. And there is simply no driving to conditions. I was on a bus going down a mountain hill in a red rainstorm with the driver going almost flat out and looking out of the side window when this slow (almost parked) car appeared out of the spray. I don't know how we avoided it. Fortunately he had the presence of mind to steer into the oncoming traffic lane rather than down the mountain. I'm sure people here have heard even worse stories.

I just stumbled across something quite interesting on Flickr. It's a photolog kept by a guy that works for an air-freight company in Manchester, England. It seems they specialise in sending cars to Asia mainly HK and Singapore. It's pretty cool to see the cars that will end up on our roads getting put on palettes in the rain and snow of Northern England...

Those links are very interesting, going through that guy's album, quite surprised to see how many are bound for HK... that pale green Murci especially. The guy also says that they sent a purple LP640 to HK, wonder where that ended up. Are most exotics in HK done like this or what? o_O Silver Murci on there looks fantastic.
