I should be staying in Melbourne monday night, next week. Any suggestions for a reasonable hotel? Coming down monday morning and returning tuesday night. If anyone feels like meeting up for a coffee or beer or whatever that would be nice too.
Good question! Frankly I don't know the layout very well, but will be flying in and out and going to Black Stallion on tuesday. Monday I'll be looking at a car but am still waiting for its storage address.
I usually stay at Como on Toorak Rd (close to Lambo showroom) or Quay West at Southbank (close to town and action). Both are less corporate than the Hyatt/Sofitel/Hilton chains and have larger suites with kitchen and laundry facilities . If I'm not driving, I also like the Windsor for the olde world feel. Crown is OK, but a bit too sterile.
Do you have a rental car, or are you using public transport? Southbanks a good spot. Close to the City Link to head out to Black Stallion which is my neck of the woods. There are hotels out that way as well. Really depends on your budget I guess. Hotels in Melbourne are a bit more expensive than Sydney from my experience.
I use it all the time. last time was a great deal at the "Henry Jones" in Hobart about 10 days ago. Image Unavailable, Please Login

I've stayed in perhaps a dozen different locations when working in Melbourne and really enjoyed stay in Medina executive on Flinders Street the best so far.. http://www.wotif.com/hotel/View?hotel=W2355&page=1&viewType=all I highly recommend the (genuine) studio apartment which has high ceilings, timber beams, full kitchen etc.. I've stayed in other places claiming to be "studio" and just turned out to be another typical box room. (no use to you this time as says sold for Monday though, so next time!) I use wotif or hotelclub to browse and get the best value without being stingy or stupidly expensive either..
It might be an idea to find the location of the car before deciding. Melbourne is huge and it takes a while to get from one side to the other, especially at peak times. As it is, the airport is almost at one end and Black Stallion is almost at the other. PM me the details when you have them to hand.
I'll meet you out at Black Stallion. I want to drop my 355 off. Let me know when you're going to be there. We can have a party.
So are we going to have a dinner on Monday night? I've got a few credits up my sleeve and would love to get out of the house for a night.
