I am a previous Ferrari 250 GTE and PF Coupe owner now looking at a 3500 for purchase. Comments on your driving and maintenance experiences with this model much appreciated before i take the plunge. I am looking at a 3500 GTI 1963. Loving the lines of these cars but interested in the "drive" before I fly to Germany to test drive 2 cars.

Having driven a 250 GTE and owning 2 3500 GT's I'd thought I'd chime in. Firstly, it all depends on the condition of any given car as to how it will drive. E.G. suspension set up, tires etc. That being said the Maseati is a much better handeling car in my opinion, it was predictable, agile and takes corners with out much body roll even with a solid rear. A 3500 GT will out perform a 250 GTE, and it a better car to boot. In my humble opinion.

Sir Stirling Moss told me,..."Ferraris were sometimes faster cars, but Maserati's ALWAYS handled better."

Let us know if you do buy a Maseerati!!!

    Ciao and good luck.

You forgot to point out that he said this before adding: "...elevators, on the other hand, always seem to handle TERRIBLY!"

I'm an happy and satisfied 3500GTI Touring owner from 2006. I've also driven in these years the 250 PF and the GTE (not mine), probably faster cars (on straight) but with the handling of a truck. An heavy steering, an hard gear and clutch , and an interior like a turkish bath in summer season.
The 3500 is an other thing to drive, I consider it a great car.
And least but not last a good investment, because in these last five years the worth of this car has almost doubled, in Italy.
I fully agree with the post of 3500GT.

    Ciao

    Thanks for the comments. Appreciated.

What in your opinion is correct market price for 3500 GTi 1963 in good (certainly not concours) condition. I know my Ferrari price ranges well but am new to Maserati and I see cars advertised from anywhere between £55,000 and £85,000 (sterling). Clearly condition will dictate price but say a condition 2/3 car...whats current market value in knowing Maserati circles ?

    Thanks

    Darren.

My '63 3500 GTI is a little bit better from the condition you described.
It is 100% original, repainted in his original colour, the interiors has been partially restored as needed, the mechanical is still very good and original.
It is not on sale, but I consider correct (in Italy and for now ) a value around 80,000 Euros.
A little more higher than the evaluations of the two most important italian magazines.
In the mean time I've heard of higher requests (around 100,000 Euros) in North Europe for similar cars but also for other cars not so original.
My opinion is that all the Maserati of the sixties are still rather underestimated so, I consider these cars as a good investment also in the short/mid term.
The above considerations are to be referred to cars in good general conditions and totally genuine.

    Ciao
    Andrea
