Better have the police no longer respond to all useless calls. Even one death is too many. The fact is that each one of those deaths was NEEDLESS and could have been AVOIDED. Mr. Virgoe was driving his truck so he could feed his family when these idiots forced him to crash and die. Fortunately he chose to avoid the cars in front of him or many more would have been killed and or crippled for life. Yes to some like you, a single life means very little untill its one of your family members or a close friend. Again it needs to be mentioned that the police can indeed multitask.

That was just a quick Google search, not a comprehensive list. I have no problem with 2 kids going to some deserted stretch of road in the middle of nowhere and smashing their Honda's into telephone poles. That's Darwinism. I also don't have a problem with speeding. At all. But, there is a time and a place. I do have a problem with morons weaving in and out of traffic riding the bumpers of other cars, or people doing 140 in a 40. If someone you love gets killed as a result of this kind of stuff, you'll be singing a different tune. Also, as people get closer to thirty their tolerance for idiotic behaviour decreases substantially.

The street racing law in Ontario is the worst piece of legislation passed in recent memory. We already have laws for speeding. Fantino didn't like it so he had McGuinty write another one where he get more power. Now cops can take your property at the side of the road based on their discretion. What happened to due process?

Someone doing 151 on the 407 at 2 in the morning is not racing, they are speeding. Someone doing 91 in a 40 km/h school zone at 3 in the afternoon is endangering lives and acting recklessly, yet it's the same charge.

That is just simple logic, (try to find any stats on that though) but to the guy who has a quota to meet on his shift it is no longer important. I remember a motorcycle cop pre-dating his daily quota of tickets. No multi-tasking there. A clear agenda is set.

When was the last time anybody see someone get pulled over for driving less than the speed limit in the left lane (be it on a boulevard or a 6 lane highway). How about someone changing lanes many times in a short distance (even in rush hour) or someone doing their make-up or shaving, Noisy pipes on a car is a no-no but harder to argue on a Harley so it's OK for bikers.

Police officers go to school, 2 years (I think) learn the law (I hope) but when civil law and tickets take precedence over criminal law, and intimidation is used instead of psycology. All the training in the world won't change anything. And when all management do is measure sick day, number of tickets issued, number of minorities arrested, hunt down repetitive DUI offenders and when the number go down move the needle to .05 just to glorify their value + make the force pay it's own way

The guy in the cruiser or on the cycle will do what his supervisor expects of him, he's not allowed to think. To any broken law must be dealt with. but the speeding offence or the missing front plate on the collector car is next to impossible to argue in court (++) for him.

If the OPP had simply escorted the Gumballers from the Quebec border to the racetrack, then to Downtown T.O. ( just like the QPP did from the border to Quebec city) The whole rally would have been a good public image, instead they billed 1000's hours did a show and in the process managed to issue a half dozen high profile tickets and impound a car (bad for the Gumbalers good for the police) , then they stopped those nasty Mini owners in front of TV cameras and now this kid in his BMW, that should raise more budget for the internet division crime team.

Keep the speeding out of residential neighbourhoods. There are plenty of places to go have fun with your car without risking lives.

The kid in the BMW deserved what he got, and the one thing he's certainly guilty of is being an idiot.

I think its great that the police cracked down on the chat forum, and actually pursued a conviction on his teenage ******bag ass. Maybe young kids everywhere will stop racing thru their residential streets. Its kids like this (who drive M5's ?) who are giving all teenagers a bad name.

Fully agreed mate, I don't think anyone is arguing whether the kid should have been punished; or that racing through city streets is acceptable. Rather, the ridiculous issue this whole street racing debacle has been made out to be (see B-Mak's post).

Anyways, enough bickering. It's a beautiful day for driving ;)

    I finally spotted some Lambos!

No pics unfortunately, but I spotted the same ol' arancio Murcielago coupe on Bovaird/410, and a giallo Murcielago roadster on Clifton Hill at the Falls last night.
