The Star Wars convention is in Orlando this weekend. I got some fun photos, just thought I'd share. I'm lucky enough that my wife and sister are also Star Wars fans, we had a blast! Very cool - coincidentally, I watched the last hour of Star Wars [New Hope] today. No big deal, you say? First time I've ever seen it. ______ Did you lighten your wallet? ______
Great post, I saw that movie 4 times when it came out in 1977 and have been hooked ever since. LOL But this was my first Star Wars convention. I went to the show looking to buy a X-wing model built by Icon back in the 90's ... unfortunately I didn't find one, so wallet came home intact
I discovered Star Wars in the early 1990's when my mom came home with the original trilogy for me from the video rental place. I was about 8ish years old and still remember the sense of wonder I got watching them. I later bought the original trilogy on VHS tapes. I have the latter 'prequel' trilogy on DVD, but don't watch them as much as the originals. Although the effects are better, the storytelling was better in the original trilogy and I'm not sure why... Or maybe it was just that people's expectations were so high that the films could never deliver no matter how good they were. All the best, Andrew.
Like most kids before video games, I grew up building models, and I've always thought the original movies were so much fun because they represented the very best in model building, and miniature special effects. Also, the original storytelling was about adventure and exploring new worlds. The prequels were about politics and emotions. Yuck! LOL
I remember seeing the original at the drive in when I was about 6 (1979). Double feature with Orca. Showed the trilogy to my son when he was about 4 and he loved them. He is 9 now and if there is a convention within a few hours of Cleveland I would definitely take him. Cool stuff.
Nope, I couldn't talk the girls into that one, so if you have a link or a clip I'd love to see it? Thanks! We played the casual fans at this convention... there were way too many hardcore fans (I don't even know what these red people represent?) Ok... hold onto your chair... here is a scene from Return Of The Jedi you've never seen... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdJ0E7HbTKc
Personally, seeing the babe in the stormtrooper outfit gives me faith that America is alive and well!
Thanks that's very cool! As much as I love new clips and little stories... I kind of feel disappointed that Lucas has made 3 billion dollars personally off of Star Wars, yet he won't make a new film for the fans. George needs to stop re-mastering, and reissuing his films in different formats and collector edition sets, and just make another film. (show us that he learned something from his last 3 films and get back to what worked in the first three- SIMPLE FUN & ADVENTURE.
This was neat, you could take a photo of yourself as a action figure "mint in the box" as they say Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Kenner sponsored a diorama contest to showcase their action figures. The winner was the freezing station from Empire Strikes Back. The company also created their own diorama- Snow Battle on Hoth. It was the coolest You couldn't get in the cockpit, it wasn't structurally strong enough to support 200 more pounds (average American) LOL I made my wife wear an old Tie Fighter T-Shirt to the convention. She didn't think it was fashionable, but thought it was very cool, once we saw the ship in full size.
The Leggo guys did a nice job... you can't see in the photo but they had a motorized pod racer zipping around the table on the first diorama, and on the Hoth display they had a motorized Snow Speeder circling the Walkers. My pictures don't do it justice, it looked bigger and more impressive in person. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I think today is the costume contest, should be a good day to go... if you still want to give it a shot. Half a day is plenty of time. They close at 5:00
