I think what we are seeing is the 'washed-out' effect of the indoor lighting.

Well that's very interesting. So what you're saying, is that now that you can freely import this car into the US from wherever, people who have wanted one for years, but frankly didn't want to import it in either as show and display or go through the hassle of the grey market conversion or even owning one of those such cars, will not want to import the cars freely now? That does not make much sense to me.

Surely there are people who will want to take advantage of this now and import more of these cars. Or are there, at any one time, only 30 people in the US who desire these cars and therefore the current existing supply in the US is enough? I think not.

I know of 3 cars that have come in because of the convenience of importing them currently. But, I also know of 3 cars sold abroad, 2 by myself, and accordingly the census of cars here is not much different. Furthermore, there is a current deal in place in the works today for a very special 288 GTO to be headed to the UK! Upon completion there is a good chance the new owner will allow full disclosure here, and that will make yet one less car in the USA. I cant discuss any specifics of the deal involving the car going to the UK other than to illustrate that in any given year a couple of GTOs seem to leave, as well as a few entries. I know this only because I am part of the facilitation process.

Of course I suppose a lot of these transactions are dependant upon the state of the currency rates at the given time. And depending on where the advantage lies, the cars go!

    So.

To address your previous comment that it "does not make much sense to me", well, me neither! I too would think more people would want a 288 GTO here, but I'm afraid our logic appears to have little application upon the status quo.

Accordingly, I can also reaffirm that, yes, "only 30 people" at any given time appear to want one here, and believe me, I wish that number was 50, Id be a lot busier!

Jay advises me that the 288 won "Best Ferrari" at Concorso, and that Sig. Fioravanti signed and dated the inside of the hood!

Been about 8 weeks since I've had the GTO started and out on the road. Started right up, always amazed at the power and with the megaphono exhausts it sounds like nothing else. Okay, it might sound like -or identical to- a '66 Chevelle 396 with Cherry Bombs, but that's a good thing. :D

I know there is a black 288 GTO from earlier posts but are there any pics of it?

I'd also love to see more of that one. There was also one that was silver for a while, but it was evidently repainted red before anyone, anywhere, had a chance to take a very good photograph of it.

It's got to be right around or near $900,000 depending on condition (higher or lower). This car has been my favorite for so long now. I remember dreaming about it in middle school....and to this day I still dream about it. It is the perfect car in my eyes...not a SINGLE thing to change. Perfection.
