Newbie here. I have a 1986 326 GTS with only 11K miles. Clearly I do not drive it too much. I need to get the seats replaced. I tried the re-dyeing route and that did not work. Does anyone have any recommendations as to reputable suppliers of leather kits?

Also, if there is anything special I should know before embarking on this endeavor.

I would appreciate being able to tap into the collective knowledge base on this site.

    Thanks in advance

Man, If I was Re doing my seats with new leather, I would bring it to a auto upolstery Guy....bound to be some in your area....thats tricky work and they can do a much better job.....unless you do that kind of work.

Curious, with only 11 K miles.......How can the seats need Re doing??.....my 86' 328 has 55K miles and my seats look Really Good, with only a wear spot on the drivers Side bolster....certainly not ready for a recover or re dye.

Do you know For Sure, it only had 11K miles.?? Worn Seats and Low mileage would make me Wonder.... just saying :)

Buy from GAHH and have a local place install their kit.

You say re-dye didn't work. Consensuses of many owners favors Leatherique chemicals for restoration of leather seats. It worked for my car at 55k and 25 years also. A recent thread indicated $2500 was high but not unusual cost of new leather on the seats.

Curiously, what happened to your seats? If you took care of your seats, at 11K miles you shouldn't have problem with an '86.

FWIW I recently swapped my seats over (L-R, R-L). I have an 89 ABS car with the later type seat mechanisms (so I don't know if it's possible to do this on the earlier seats).

I had the seats out the car to re-dye them & also seperated the backs from the bases. At that point I noticed that the back and base parts of the two seats are identical & it was just a matter of swapping the mechanisms over from one side to the other. I also took the back panels off (just a few rivets) & swapped them over too so that the map pocket stayed on the passenger side.

The leather on the outside bolster of what was my driver's seat is feeling pretty stretched & thin. What is now the driver's seat also feels much firmer than the other one did to sit in so it has given me a better driver's seat and will preserve the other one (which gets much less use) for a good while longer & avoid having to get them re-upholstered for some time to come.

This.......the patterns are correct and we've had lots of positive posts on this vendor.

ReOriginals is another one, from Texas.

Worldwide Uphostery is a third.....or you could drive to Mexico for a Tuck and Roll job....

Many owners, but not this one. A previous owner of my 328 ruined the original interior with Leatherique (To be fair any brand of re-dye might have ruined it).

I had an upholstery shop use GAHH leather. I would advise finding someone who does work on the vintage stuff (Daytona, 250 GT series, etc.) and let him do your interior. Mine was ~$5000 redone.

My upholstery guy just made this recommendation of swapping seat bottoms to stretch the overall life of my seats. I love the idea. Thanks for bringing it up. Great for us guys who have drivers cars.

It seemed like a sensible thing to do to me - but as I said I have the later style 328 seats. The seats themselves are pretty similar to the earlier ones but the mechanisms are different.

I am not sure if it can be done with the earlier 328 seats (or indeed seats from any other car (308s/Mondis etc).

If you're just throwing new leather on old seats... picture this: have you ever seen an old lady whose spent the last 40 years sunbathing?

Those seats will need new foam at the very least. Let a professional do the work or your seats will look worse than Tara Reid's boob job.

What's the concensus on covers for the "new" leather? I find putting covers on my "old" leather (that still looks good) reduces the wear and tear.

I currently am having Bradon put new leather & carpet in my 308.
But today I ran across this. Looks like a good deal to me.
leather interior from FerrParts for $2400.

That Ferrparts seat kit says for 308s and 328s but that pattern is totally different than the oem pattern on my 328. I guess their words mean it will FIT all 08s/28s, not that it is the correct pattern.

those are 81-85 308 seats and center. That is a great price, althought, I think most people would want door panels too, since the new color never matches the old one exactly. The seats are same as 80 as well, but the center consul is slightly different.

11K miles?... Maybe you should sell the car and get a 328 poster... Would be much cheaper.

My seats are trashed. I was going to replace the seats with racing seats for $300 a pair but every thing I saw was to big. 22" across and 37" tall was to much seat.

how do the GAAH seats smell? One of things i love about my 308 is how the interior smells with the original leather....

The Ferrparts has them - but that's EXACTLY why I had all leather & carpets done.

I re-upholstered my Mustang...it's not too hard to do with practice and the 328 is done in like manner (hog rings! or, in the South, Hawg Rangs!!!).

I would avoid doing my first practice effort on a set of new Ferrari leathers. Un-install your current ones; re-install to get experience; repeat as necessary to develop confidence, and; install the new leathers.

BTW, I did the Leatherique re-dye on my 328 with acceptable quality (good 'nuff for drivin').

    Have fun!

So is there a consensus on who has the most accurate reproductions between Reoriginals, GAHH or Worldwide? I just can justify sending them to Luppi at current forex rates.
