My 430 turned 5 today----cost summary

    Hard to believe it! My 3 pedal coupe has served me well. Total miles: 17,900. Estimated 1000 track miles. All work performed at Ferrari of Denver.

    Annual service:
    1. 371.
    2. 1150.
    3. 426.
    4. 978.
    5. 581.
    total: 3506. note: the 1st one was a little cheaper because the gear oil was changed during a campaign.

    Warranty work:
    rear main seal 11/2/07 (this is a very rare problem evidently)
    CEL 4/29/08
    sway bar bushings (noisy) 8/8/08
    exhaust manifolds 8/8/08 (very common problem but there is a new design/manufacturer)

    Repairs after warranty:
    replace bypass valve 234.
    replace air intake rubber seals 351.
    alignment 440.
    total 1025.

    Consumables:
    2 sets of tires 3428. Car came with Pirellis which I like but wear quickly. Currently running PS2s which last much longer.
    1 set of brake pads 762.
    1 set of rotors and pads (just done) 3053.
    Total 7243.

    Other:
    fire extinguisher installed 268.
    V1 hard wire 210.
    1st oil change (not required) 208.
    jack 125.
    paint touchup 275.
    brake flush (for track) 144.
    windshield 1000. (deductible--windshield was badly chipped/pitted)
    detail 100.
    Total: 2330.

    Grand total: 14,104.

    Note: Much of the cost comes from track driving. I think I would be on my original brake pads and most of the windshield pitting came on track days. Probably would still be on my 2nd set of tires also.

    There were 10 service campaigns performed. Anyone buying one of these early cars should make sure they are up to date.

    I imagine the question on many people's lips is the depreciation, wonder what the trade in difference today on a 458 would be ? Then divide the total against the number of miles and I guess it changes the picture quite a bit...

    All things considered, that is looking really good. It would be interesting to see what the difference in a similar car with the F1 transmission would look like. I know of quite a few that have had the entire transmission, if not parts of it, replaced over time (mostly under warranty, thankfully).

    One of the most informational posts I have seen in a while!

    LOL, if threads are too informational I usually hear from Ferrari or the dealer. Maybe they haven't seen this thread yet. :D

    In my case, MSRP was 178K+. Paddle cars were something like 10-11K more. I didn't get expensive decorative options like CF trim. Based on what I have seen, I think the car would sell for around 120K and trade in might be 110K. So I'm down about a 3rd. Ferrari ownership ain't cheap and I didn't expect it to be. People who bought "loaded" paddle cars face heavier depreciation. I had a deposit on the 458 but cancelled because no stick but even if it was available I doubt I would be willing to give up my 430 plus 150K. Don't see the value.

    Excellent review! And very meticulous. What were the other service campaigns?

    So when purchasing a used Ferrari, what is the best way to find out what all the service campaigns have been PRIOR to finding out which ones have been done? Will any dealer give this information out?

    Not up to your mileage but higher than many in Boston at 7,500.

    Very little cost other than oil and basic tune ups. However, my battery just totally died (no dash lights whatsoever) while I was away for 3 weeks (forgot to connect the battery minder). Trying to figure out how an easy way to jump start it or charge the battery. I got access to the battery but ?

    Did you ever have to replace the battery ?

    I have to catch up on miles (my only excuse is that I bought a plane which is eating into my car time).

    They checked my battery in last annual and said it was still 98%. I hook it up to a tender when it sits for more than a week or so. They replaced my key battery this time however.

    I wonder how many of us who bought cars in 2005 still have them?

    I imagine others will have this question, so here goes. Every dealer has access to the info if you have the VIN. Whether or not they give it out, you'll have to ask. These services are free so you can update after purchase.

    144 E-diff control valve
    150 electric fan cover
    158 battery terminal re-torque
    163 exhaust hanger
    173 tail pipes and brackets
    205 oil filter guard
    214 stereo software update

    Yes, dealers will tell you whether the campaigns are up to date and if not, what campaigns are outstanding. Either 1) find out where the car is serviced and call them with the VIN (might need owners permission to discuss someone else's car, but they should grant it if you are seriously looking) or 2) service campaigns would come up during a PPI if you get that far with the seller.

    If you think Ferrari's have a steep depreciation curve, try buying a new boat.....I love selling 3 year old toys for 60 cents on the dollar...

    What am I missing. An "annual" service costs $1,600 (just got the bill from San Diego) By my count that is 5x$ 1600 or $8,000 non warrantied in 5 years. Someone enlighten me. Best

    they are overbilling you.

    mine have ranged from 800-1200 for all fluids, even the ones the recommend 2years on..

    They may charge more for labor and, if I'm not mistaken, CA has some fees for hazardous material disposal, etc. Also, note that odd years are quite a bit less than even years due to differences in what is called for. Check your service booklet. Make sure they are not doing "extras". 1600. for an odd year which is basically oil and brake fluid plus inspections is a lot. Paddle cars may require more, but I don't know for sure.

    How many owners with quite fair mileage have had a complete trouble free motoring experience with their 430F1?

    ie. Nothing has gone wrong, nothing broke, nothing fell off, no warning lights came on etc..

    That would be the thing to know!

    Great writeup. Nice to know once again that most of you haven't had many major issues. Your service rates seem very low. My second annual was $1908 performed 2 weeks ago.

    I'm a long time fan of the manual gearbox and was facing the eternal debate of F1 vs 3 pedal. I'm leaning towards the 3 pedal, however, they are just hard to find in the secondary market with a blk/blk coupe. Thanks for the great post, OP.
