Can anyone advise as to alternate suppliers of Ferrari 308 rotors. Were they used on BMW's,Mercs whatever? I know that the calipers for a standard 308 are also standard Porsche parts (911 and 914) courtesy of Cliff Beer. I doubt that the standard rotors are only made for the 308, anyone in the know??? Geoff
Depending on what you find and where, prices will be anywhere from $250 - $400 for fronts (EACH), about 20-25% less for the rears.
They NO LONGER carry them. I missed out on the last set for $150/pr several months ago.....I am KICKING myself!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JIM
Don't sweat it too much. These deals come and go ie Jegs ~$150 XWX's for example - I shoulda- - - - - - Good thing about these rotors is they have enough meat to be turned usually. One set of BMW pads, and I was surprised how far below min thickness they were.
Geoff, it certainly appears that the rotors are ferrari-specific....I looked around and did some cross comparing with porsche and other performance cars of similar vintage and couldn't find anything that looked the same, front or rear, unfortunately. Non-metallic pads will generally make your rotors last longer then semi-metallic, so, if you can find an acceptable non-metallic pad..... To be precise the rear 308 calipers are very close to the 914-6 rear calipers (not the regular run of the mill 914, although they look similar).
Thanks for cheering me up fellers,at $150 a pair thats a good deal, mine are right on the 20mm mark now and with grooving?I might try and get them skimmed at $12 a disc/rotor while I wait for a deal to come up!
just a little bit of looking returned this.... which I suspect is probably the average going rate these days. http://www.importrp.com/search.php?mode=search&page=44&xid=39f778894f37924c51d563cebe24f3bb
I recently bought (2) front Brembos from GT Car parts for $290/ea and I bought (2) rears in 2007 from tire rack before they discontinued them for like $110 ea.
Cross to another car is unlikely. That car would have to share the same wheel bolt pattern as the 308, and I think the only one is Volvo. Then they would have to have the same hub diameter and Volvo is different. Like the Volvo wheels that some F-Chatters have used, you might be able to make a hub spacer to get the hub size right and then have a solution. So if you are really determined start with Volvo rotors and look for the same diameter, swept area, thickness and offset.
Rear calipers are actually Prosche 914/6 GT except for the bleeder location. I too purchased these Brembo rotors during the Tire Rack closeout and picked them up in Delaware. I could not resist that deal. Your sources are becoming more limited with higher prices. RockAuto is one and then you have http://www.importrp.com/product.php?productid=117971, which seems to be the least expensive currently @ $196 ea. You can also try AW Parts in N.J., but I believe they will be more expensive. Ceramic pads are probably the least destructive to the rotors.
its more than reasonable if you can wait, thats what I did & they were half the price of locals even with the shipping. I did get the rears for 118 @ tire rack & sold my last one on ebay. Try international auto parts(fiat stuff) thats where I got my last set cheep
Superformance from England does have good prices but it also depends on the Dollar vs Pound. The shipping fees they charge have always killed the deal for me and brake rotors are very heavy. There are plenty of sources here in the USA.
My 308 came with the rear brakes completely missing, among other things (the car was just starting to be parted out when I got it). I bought a pair of volvo 240 rear rotors at pep boys for $60, and turned them down about 1/2" in diameter in the lathe, now they fit. They are solid disks, not vented, but they fit. I also installed the 914 calipers (from Ebay) which are very close to stock, but not identical. The 914 calipers bolt right on, and the parking brake is in the right place, but the pads are smaller. The Volvo is one of a very few cars with the same 5 x 108 bolt pattern, and that's the key, but given the amount of time it took me to get all this working, the stock discs for $199 each at importrp.com, in retrospect, looks like not a bad deal at all.
Just a thought, would anyone have a spare pair of decent front discs for my 79 GT4 ?(I am in Australia 2223.) pm me if you can do. Thanks Geoff.
Oooooooooooooooo K then .... At our local SuperCheap they stock drake discs from Brake Discs Australia. Look in their cataogue and you will find 208 Ferrari brake discs listed. I can't remember the number off-hand .... might be 070 and 071 .....not sure really. DBA do not list them on their internet catalogue. I'd call them direct and see if they still manufacture the discs listed in the print catalogue.
