    hi every one, i will be doing a track day next thursday. It will be my first time on a proper race track in a car besides gokarting. Any tips about the track, or what i should or should not do? And what is a respectable time? I will be in a 84 alfa romeo gtv6 with a bit of engine work done.

    I would think about 1.35.
    Turn one hold a high gear let the speed pull you through. 3rd in the alfa,even 4th gear.
    Up the back straight don't drive over the ripple strip at the ist part of the back straight.
    Brake in a car light that at about the 150 mark ,till you get your eye in.
    3rd gear down to Dandenong road and back to 2nd the rest is straight forward,the entry onto the main straight,go close as you can to the LHS wall,then over to the right for the 1st corner.
    1st corner in a good car like a old Porsche you don't brake till about the 50 metre mark,so i'd say brake at about the 100 metre mark.

    must have been doing something correct as I was on poll and the car held the SC lap record for historics at a low 1.26.

    Watch the red-mist.

    Expect experienced drivers to pass you in say 850cc dead standard Minis. This happens and a lot of people get upset as their ego takes a hit and the red-mist rolls in, but what they don't realise is that guy in that 850cc Mini has raced at that track for 15 years or something ... the result of this red-mist and inexperience is often a very bent car :(.

    Finished the day sucsessfully, the car and i in 1 piece safely at home. Track very enjoyable and a gets a bit heart in mouth sometimes especially that the rain was off and on today. Thanks for all the tips
