This was lot #69 & sold for 110K. Does anyone know how good of a car it was?
I've seen a few of these from Germany with 9 inch Boxer wheels, which really add a whole lot more muscle to an already great shape. http://www.anamera.com/en/detail/car/94051/index.html?no_cache=1&ret=63
So I take it it is not the one you sent a photo of sitting on a forklift a few years ago? best regards, Marc
Sorry to disagree with you Michael, but I have 9" rears with no cuts or bends to the guards (including guard lips) Regards WM Image Unavailable, Please Login
Bill Mine came w 9" rims and it was drivable but I did not feel (and Algar's pros agreed) there was insufficient latteral clearance for safety given the suspension travel. (To be accurate they were 9" Borranis made for the Daytona RW 4300s) Mine is an early car, 14947, perhaps the later cars have more room in the wells? M
Michael, I bought my Borranis (RW4300) new in 2005 and have more than 5k road miles on them - some as hard as you want to run spoke wheels, without problems. I have a set of 16's (9' & 7" with Michelin Pilot Sports) that I intended for more serious use. The performance of these is another dimension better in every respect, but as it turns out, the car spends most of its time on the Borranis - mainly because they look right. Regards WM
Yours is nearer the end of the run I wonder if Pinninfarina the opened the wells up during production?
your car looks fantastic on those borranis!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i changes the look and feel of the c4...actually looks more aggressive than the daytona!
The 16" (9"s & 7.5"s) 3 piece wheels I have were made by Simmons Wheels here in Australia before I bought the Borranis. At the time I was looking for a better tyre choice so the only option was to go up to 16". Tony Simmons is a friend of mine and he made them as a favour about 5 years ago. The centres were a standard Simmons B45 casting used for his bolt on wheels but were machined to take Ferrari splined hubs and standard Ferrari hub caps. They give the car a totally different look as you can see. As it turns out, the car lives on the Borranis so I am going to use these wheels for something else. I chose Michelin Pilot Sports as these were rated as the best available 'normal' (16") road tire available at the time. They are excellent - the difference in performance - road feel & grip etc., compared to 15" XWX's on either the Borranis or the Crommodoras, is chalk and cheese. The rolling diameter is only marginally smaller. Tony retired last year to play with his historic race cars so these wheels are NLA. In the 80's, Simmons a number of sets of wheels for Boxers and 308s (bolt-on). (Both 15" & 16", I think). Many are the classic BBS style and these appear from time to time. I think the reason why this is working for you is that you are using a narrow tire on the rear 9" rims. I think the typical size is a 255/60, which would probably not work without expanding the well.
225/VR7015 XWX is the size commonly fitted to 9" rears on Daytonas. I think it was the original size fitted to 512 Boxers (with 9" rears) Regards WM
