    Hi guys,
I had my car parked for 2 months in the summer while i was overseas. When i came back i noticed a bad smell specially if i have the AC on. Smeel of a decomposing dead animal. I looked everywhere i could check with a head lamp and found nothing. After driving for a while the smell almost goes away... Today i saw some sponge like cuttings (pea size) coming out of the AC vents ! I found that very strange... checked the AC air filter and all seemed noemal... Any ideas?

The air con system can produce a bad odour after extended periods of non use, through the build up of bad bacteria, but quite frankly I've never know one to get quite as bad as 'decomposing animal' bad.

I don't think the widely available aerosol cleaner for a/c is going to tackle this one.

Sounds like a mouse got into your duct system and built a nest. When you turn on the air or heat you kill whatever babies are in the nest and their little bodies start to decay.

That was what I was thinking.... Any electrical issues? Rodents will eat the wires so take care of this asap. Look for rodent droppings beside boxes and cabinets in the garage around the garage floor.

You might want to check to see if your A/C drain from the evaporator core is plugged up or not. Run the A/C and see if you get any water from under the front of the car. Sounds like it may be plugged up and causing trapped water to corrode the insulation material.

I almost fried these two - until I looked in the rear view mirror and spotted them sitting still as anything so as not to get spotted. I opened the engine cover and shooo'ed them out. Next day there were back in there.. took a week before they were ready to fly and took off. It would appear they took a real shine to the 360 engine compartment! Lol

That is the most interesting photo I've ever seen of a 360! One of them even crapped on an intake cover!

They cr@pped all over the engine compartment.. took me ages to clean up after them!
They jumped out of their nest in our underground car park - hid under my car for a day, after that I figured they'd flown off. Until I got in, adjusted the rear view mirror and went WTF!!
The one on the left hand side even had the cheek to look upset at me for disturbing them.. check it out!

Sometimes, manufacturers use foam around the a/c vents to seal the vent from the dash.

As the foam gets old, it falls apart and tends to get blown out through the a/c vent.

I have seen many cars over the years do this. I am assuming Ferrari use the same technique to seal their a/c vents.

Strange issue about the smell. Sounds like it has cleared up now.

most likely mice moved in. They chew up the filters to make a nest. Then they have babies and some of the babies always die.

I saw this exact thing on Pimp My Ride.

open up the housing and you will probably find mice skeletons

I was trying to figure out what is going on... the AC water is dripping ok under the front of the car (not clogged), so no definite answer yet... after a week of daily use , the smell is much less now and the cuttings too after blowing a lot out :) ... will wait some more time and let you know...
Driving is just normal ... actually fabulous !
