I'm not a 458 hater, infect I even mentioned that I'm going to buy one but I'll wait for now untill Ferrari figures out all the problems and makes it perfect.

Wow... So some people DO really hate Ferraris... I thought this kind of hatred only exist in our business. A lot of our competitors buy our products on purpose and then intentionally cause problems and post reviews on forums and stuff. We've had this problem since the day one we became number one and best player in our niche market business.

I was doubting it until I saw this youtube. This video made my mind set. It's WAY TOO obvious that it's an intentional propaganda. I doubt Ferrari ever made any car models like that, especially in 21st century???!!!

Because the car is so nice, competitors buy (they can hire anyone to buy the car and then have them put fire intentionally) the cars and do that VERY intentionally. Very simple and easy way to make people afraid of buying the 458. It's a very costly way but I'm sure Ferrari competitor(s) do have money for that and really it's the insurance companies that are suffering.

    SAD... VERY sad...

Ferrari owners, especially 458 owners and potential 458 owners, do NOT be afraid!

I myself am a very serious driver. I drive my cars very intensively. If nothing happens to my car, then those people will be proven wrong!

Interesting, 1 in CA, 1 Switzerland, two France, 1 China. All not exactly super hot spots. Wonder about 1 hour in stop and go traffic in Miami or Pheonix on a 95 degree day with the AC going full blast..

Does anyone have DETAILS on the breather pipe change?

(my 458 arrives in Jan in Florida)

    Lou,
Your car will have been modified. Mine was done at the factory before delivery last week. ISUK on another thread has the recall details

What do you mean? I'm dead serious. I suspect McLaren and Lamborghini for those incidents.

I don't really understand how additional engine compartment venting will stop fires. A fire has to have three things 1. a fuel source (ordinarily gas or oil in cars) 2. oxygen and 3. an ignition source. Heat alone will not cause a fire. As most of us old timers know, even oil hitting a hot exhaust pipe will not usually cause flame. So gas hitting a very hot engine part is the likely source.

Its pretty interesting how frequent this is in the short amount of time the car has been on the streets.

So the problem has been addressed? Does Ferrari know what the issue is?

The replacement vent may release gas fumes away from the hot engine which could be the ignition source.

Issue is very simple. It's called "Enterprise Terrorism". Let's think about it. Ferrari is not Yugo. It's one of the best companies out there and one of the only companies with its own F1 Racing team. Do people actually think it's possible to a car burning so frequently like that in such a short period of time a natural disaster?

Come on guys... Cars don't burn like that, especially the newest Ferrari that stole a lot of sales from LP570 Superleggera and is threatening the newest yet-to-be-launched McLaren (Don't even know how to spell this right but if I'm wrong, excuse me).

    ;-)

This story is getting out of proprtion IMHO due to the speed bad news spreads on the internet. Ferrari have been building this car since January so they must have built at least 2000+ by now I'd guestimate. The number of fire incidents is therefore not exactly at epidemic proportions. There are more pics of burning 360s/430s/Gallardos/Murci's etc on the net than there are of 458s.

I haven't seen the campaign letter as my dealer told me about the new part over the phone. All I can say is that it's a "Campaign" as opposed to a recall so wasn't deemed as an urgent fix. The breather kits only arrived at my dealer on Friday and I used a more local one to do the work under warranty. New cars coming down the line will have this modification as a matter of course. I've no idea if it's market specific but your dealer should be aware of this campaign and able to advise if your car is affected.

Napolis is correct in the the new part looks like it vents the fuel vapour safely away from the engine. I guess Ferrari have taken a proactive approach and decided to fit this modified design but that is pure speculation on my part, not fact I would stress.

The new breather box is fitted somewhere in front of the left hand side wheel arch. The wheel and plastic wheel arch liner have to be taken off by a tech to allow access for the unit to be fixed into position. I didn't bother going to watch the process so can't say exactly where it sits before someone asks. It is safely tucked away from the engine as the engine bay sideguards cover that area. It's a pretty quick "do it while you wait" fix.

So its more logical to explain this as an automotive conspiracy against Ferrari rather than mechanical failure on a highly technological new model...

Yeah.... nice racism too, great way to let people know you don't need to post here.

Come one... No directly criticizing others. That's what I believe and I have a right to say it. What's wrong with believing different things?

Is it illegal to post anything that's political?
