I recently stumbled across an image on the Porsche 911 page on Facebook. Its showing a rendering of the supposed new 911 Speedster. They are supposedly only going to make 100 of them, with 30 heading stateside.

Here is a link to the image.

    I'm not so sure.

I like the Speedster concept (obviously, because I have one), but I don't think you get there by adding stuff on to an existing 997 body. The biggest design problem with their last attempts were that the low Speedster-style windscreen looked odd on an upright 911/964-style body, and I'm not sure this one looks better.

As far as shedding weight, I am sure about that -- fantastic idea.

But if they're only making 100 of them it's just a manufactured collector's item anyway and will probably be priced in line with the 911 Club Sport (about double what a normal 997 costs).

I still love the 1989 speedster. It's funny, but now the 1994 (964) speedster is worth more than the 89

I sold my 9,000 mile 94 speedster a few months ago and I would say that you are not correct in this comment. The 94 is a better driving car but the value is not nearly as strong as a similar condition/mile 89.

    What's the current market for a good 89 v 94? (Assuming similar condition/miles/service etc)

    Just wondering.

there is a big spread in these cars in wholesale vs retail more so than most car. they just seems to be a bit more of a specialty item. if we are talking a car with under 10,000 miles triple mint a 94 is 50/70k (wholesale/retail) where an 89 is more like 65k/85k. (wholesale vs retail) this being said the 94 is the much better car to actually drive but the 89 widebody is worth more.

I like the concept and the picture, however without a power folding top wouldn't that large rear hump behind the passenger seat go away? I'v never been a big fan of that huge rear ass on the 911 cabriolets.

I really want to see a new 997 slantnose.

Unfortunately, the new laws/restrictions for pedestrians, headlight height whatever, I highly doubt that would happen :(

94 models are in my eyes worth more as the 964 is drivers car, between the old and new the car makes you work for pleasure and the extra power is felt... The 94 was a very special year for Porsche with very limited numbers for the 911 turbo, speedster and Renn Sport (RS). The speedster cost $1000 less than the 89 and benefited from strengthened windshield frame, a smoother-looking fiberglass top cover, and easier top operation.

Since the engine's in the back they can pretty much do whatever they want with the hood height, etc.

I bought a 94 because I agree it is a better car. But market prices are different from what you and I enjoy driving.

I can hardly believe Porsche would be making only 100 of a special on the level of a Speedster.

Good point, for 1994 only 84 RS were made, that would make this the rarest, followed100 959. :)

Great resource there for all things RS America. Thanks!

Too bad the 993 RS never made it over here. However it will soon be 15 years old...

I saw a black/black 89 speedster today! I ran down Sunset Blvd talking to the owner (nice lady) trying to convince her to sell it to me! I still think that speedster looks great! I still love the 94 as well (not as much as the 89), but I might have to try to scoop up one of these new ones! It's just something about the clam shell.

That's what my Porsche article says. It also has different production figures. I believe it says that 100 will be coming stateside.
