Seriously though, at 0:32 to about 0:35 - if my children made that noise, I'd send them to their room for a fortnight!
I think you bring up a good analogy. Its like running a long race... you don't sprint at the begining... must pace oneself.
What?! Just 2-3K hours, that's all? Do they rev to 9k rpm? I remember that there were several boats that used Ferrari & Lambo engines in the past.
TBO is around here cos it IS lugging a VERY large payload around ... petrol engines rev higher ... but nowhere near 9k ... simply cos these engines are bigger than cars ... also, as the boat size crosses approx. 30', it becomes more economical to switch to diesel engines. diesels will typically run around 3,000 - 3,500 rpm ... if u look at supertankers, their 5 storey high engines run at 94-96 rpm ... since the prop is monstrous ... increasing speed means increasing rpm by ONE or TWO rpm ... there are car companies that are increasingly participating in designing some new speedboats ... the newest around the corner is the one by porsche ... altho i don't know the extent to which car engine technology is in those engines ...
