I have often wondered why the airfoil Ferrari designed for the early "P" cars was removed for racing in the states? IMHO the cars look better with them installed. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I read somewhere that Chinetti Sr. was not fond of them. It wasn't just the "P" cars either, as the airfoil was also removed on the '62 Le Mans winning 330 TRI/LM (S/N 0780TR/0808) when it went to NART for Pedro Rodriguez. Maybe others?
I don't believe there was anything structural about the piece but that it was an early aerodynamic device? The 64 GTOs had little airfoils built into the roof.
Hi, I'm just a Ferrari lover, and my opinion is nothing! However I know that this device come from the same intent of the GTO and later of the P2, and is almost the same we find on the 250LM. I agree will be better for driver to have a true roll-bar! I remember a LM pic with the airfoil bend from a driver jumping in! Alessandro

Because in the US the rules for the wind screen were different ("sport" category not "prototype" category). The wind screen is much more lower, thus the "airfoiled" roll bar is useless.
