Finally a race weekend! I was going through withdrawl, anyone else?

Anyway, I don't hink anyone is going to go with super-soft tires over the weekend as they will die very quickly on this track. If that is indeed the case, we could see a change in the front runners. I believe Alonso and Button will be very strong here.

Rain: Hamilton Vettel Alonso Button in zat order.

No rain, don't know, depends on whether the FIA have had Redbull and Ferrari wings clipped.

Ok, let's see, it is a drivers' track and the forecast is wet. That makes the prediction fairly straight forward:

    Vettel, Hamilton, Alonso

    in that order

    Got to agree with this.

I picked Button on jacks thing though, already used up vettel (crash), Alonso (engine), webber (crash IIRC) and hamilton (some points!)...Was thinking of Kubica as well but will pick him later. And Schumacher ofcourse, but no point in using him because of the penalty.

    Should be a good race...

I think everyone will show up with a raft of updates and we won't know what direction those updates have taken the various cars until Saturday after Q3.

Teams normally develop at the same pace so everybody will have made a big step forward leaving us exactly with what we know now.

    LOL

Well, they're Italians after all. :)

Seriously, I'm pretty sure Ferrari made some good progress as did all the big teams. Except that MB is keeping the expectations low, which doesn't surprise me since they said they're not really focusing on this year's car anymore.

I also expect the backmarkers to be even further away from the top.

The interesting part will be the midpack teams where somebody might get caught napping. Williams vs Renault vs Sauber could be interesting.

Webber and Vettel will dominate. Webber is good in the rain ...

McLaren's will go backwards in development compared to Ferrari and RedBull because they are reported to be lost in regards to flex being involved in the real world.

    Sambomydog:

I saw your message before you deleted it and I understand you. I haven't seen the GP in Spa, but I've been there (even driven the track).

You spoke from my heart: It is a huge difference whether you watch a race on TV or whether you "enjoy" it live. Nobody here on FChat cares whether you have a working toilet, but once you're there YOU do.

That said, don't let it get to you. Take in the atmosphere. Enjoy the feeling that you're live at F1's coolest track. Don't bother with results, just listen to the noise and enjoy the vistas.

...and eat lots of dark chocolate (Belgium makes some of the finest). It'll keep you away from the (missing) portalets.

And you can probably rent in the F1 village one of those "kangaroo" TVs if you really care about who is first on the track. I never do, I'm too busy taking in the atmosphere.

Your 50" Plasma TV awaits you at home for Monza GP.

    Cheer up m8!

I'm sure you won't get much love for that post as most folks on here only judge by their TV sets.

That's why Hungaroring gets such a bum rap and why everybody loves Monza.

Hungaroring is a fantastic track to be at because you can see the cars at many places thanks to the hilly terrain and Monza is even worse than your description of Spa because you can see the cars only in a very narrow window zooming by. Except for being hallowed ground, there is nothing attractive about modern Monza.

From a travelers' perspective, I still think the Indianapolis Mickey Mouse track is the best: Lots of hotel rooms in the city, easy way to get to the track, lots of parking, most flexible viewing points, perfect infrastructure of bathrooms and foodstands, big TV screens and everybody speaks English. :)
