Yes! Oh please do keep this thread on here! Sure this is totally out of context, but that video is something everyone should see. Basie has always been my favorite big band leader. I saw them live two years ago. Even though Basie isn't around anymore, they're keeping his spirit alive. Go Norbert! I had no idea you were into jazz. I've been telling Rob, we need a music section on Fchat...
Oy vey, not my style of music. I much prefer jazz... How can you beat something as swingin as this?: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFcVaitADW8
First off I'm not the mod for this forum anymore, so I couldn't care less. Second within the regional forums it is quite ok to post NFC threads. Third my currently favorite musician is "DJ Antoine" and his house music. But it's nice to hear from you again Norbert. Hope to see you at one of the many events coming up shortly.
Hehe, that one gets called on gigs quite a bit. It's a favorite. Something a bit more modern. Chris Potter Underground. I've been getting really into them lately: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-x4f7o-8E8
This is what I consider soothing music! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYUMPKFYd6g&playnext=1&videos=4afzXoOKXw4&feature=artistob
Warm summer night cruising on Lake Shore Drive in a bright red 1972 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 with the top down listening to this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKB4S1Vf3oY p.s. Almost forgot the Gold Chains
Know Cliff, Know Metallica! No Cliff No Metallica! On a side note Metal Haven closed up shop but he is still getting rid of stuff at their website.
No problem, I just found it as well. I plan to see Mehldau play at the Chicago Jazz Festival. Here's another Mehldau video for ya: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLreOYVvUIQ Pretty epic!
Okay since you sent me to that channel, I have to post this. This is one of my all time favorite Basie recordings: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKICK3CSlgU
What is wrong with today's 'youts' ( Joe Pesche in My Cousin Vinny)? Driving ricers and adding coffee-can mufflers and listening to jazz. In my day we drove muscle cars and listened to rock. Sheesh, today's 'youts' have become a bunch of pansies. I miss the days when cars were cars and music was head-banging!
LOL! If you think the majority of today's 'youts' listen to jazz, you're wrong. They should, but they don't.
I've gotta love ya Danny, you're a man with more maturity than your age. You've quieted me and I have no legitimate rebuttal....YOU WIN!!!
First, I think this may be the first time I have been back on "Ferrari Chat" since I posted the Basie link. I sent that link to so many people around the U.S. Musicians included. Really happy to read that it was so well received. Sort of forgot about it. Spoke with Dan Sunday at the "Italian Village" event. Had gone to the "Green Mill" on Wednesday night 1 1/2 weeks before as many of the pickup musicians for "Swing Gitan" who played at the 100th birthday gig for Django Reinhardt at Millennium Park were there. Carolyn and I were leaving Friday morning for the Gypsy Jazz Fest in Fitchburg, WI so we skipped Millennium Park. Sorry now because we spoke to Alfonso and Tony at Fitchburg who are musicians with Swing Gitan with Alfonso being the leader. I knew that Dan played double bass, but I had no idea that one of the bands he plays in was the opening act for the Millennium Park gig. So my conversation with Dan brought be back to the post tonight. Yes, music has always been very important in my life. Meeting and personally knowing many of the musicians locally, nationally and internationally is as much a pleasure as being a car guy too. Next month Carolyn and I are attending the DjangoFest on Whidbey Island off the coast of Tacoma, WI. Now for better or worse, I have semi-invited a local musician to stay at the house we have rented on Whidbey Island. The Gonzalo Bergara quartet stayed with him last week in Chicago after their appearance in WI. That group is performing at Whidbey next month too. The only problem is that Jeffery and Adrian like to harmonize Beatles songs. No way they are getting together late at night to sing while we are trying to sleep. My greatest problem now is trying to decide how much beer to buy before taking the ferry over to the island. Don't know how many are going to show up for a get-together as Swing Gitan is performing too. Gonzalo Bergara Quartet : www.GonzaloBergara.com All the song selections on the upper right of the page were written by him with the exception of "I'll see you in my dreams". I think he is playing better now than Jorgensen which may not mean much to many of you. Adrian has over 10,000 subscribers on YouTube. Here is a little "Super Mario Bros" composition that he put together (over 700K hits...whow!!!!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6ti5f-LHp4&feature=related Sorry but here is an early 1928 link to an all lady orchestra. Can you count the accordions and banjos? Really glad that this one has survived. Very "dry" for many I am sure, but I think it is great for the effort that had to have been put forth by these young ladies. Have sent it to some of you before. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ACtACBX0gM&feature=related Dan, since you already know Beau, I am going to ask Alfonso if you can "sit in" at the Green Mill or Katrinas one night. Would be great to hear you playing with the group. Just one more...Here is Count Basie and Oscar Peterson playing "Jumpin at the Woodside". (Don't get me started. I have too many links stored.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XIs1vcoPQbw&feature=related All the best to everyone!! Norbert
It was a pleasure to see you again Norbert! That gig was a lot of fun. I played with a big band for a crowd of over 10,000 people. I took a solo too. I'd love to sit in, that would be really cool! Beau is an awesome guy, I'll be seeing him in April. Lots of great links in your post Norbert, I hope to see you down at the Green Mill sometime.
