In the US, that is. Anyone else? Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
That looks awesome! Well speced. It should blend in nicely when needed, and blow the doors off of almost anything when that is needed.
I don't know what is up with R8 availability, but my friend has been waiting since January and they are now saying he will not get his (V10 coupe) until November.
"however, R8 spyders have been out in the US for 4-6 months..." Not that it matters, but I believe you're wrong. Anyway, interesting car in the first 20 miles or so. If you want a Scuderia, this isn't that, doesn't have the amazing sound, not as breathtakingly light and nimble. Better featured than my '08 612 OTO, and things work better. Maybe that's unfair, given the age difference, but I never understood, for example, why the 612 OTO bluetooth doesn't work properly. Rtronic shift is fine, better than the 612 Superfast, not as quick as the Scuderia. I've seen complaints about the Rtronic in the auto press, but that's just silly IMO. For all practical purposes, other than flogging the thing on track - and why would you ever do that with this car? - the paddles and auto modes work smoothly and well. More sportscar than a Conti GTC. More gentleman's GT than a Scuderia. MSRP vastly less than the latter, substantially less than the former. Not sure where it fits, need to drive it more. Was happy to find a bit of what I believe to be old world translation charm in the owners manual - thought that might be reserved to Ferrari. On break-in, Audi warns you, in consecutive sentences: "Do not use full acceleration for the first 600 miles .... You must also not use full acceleration between 600 and 1,200 miles."
Thanks for the compliments. I wish I had given the thread a different title but steveny: "My neighbor has had his for a couple of months now." You and GuyIncognito disagree with Audi on delivery dates. Audi priced the US car in July and, in the same release, announced first deliveries in August. I don't know where or when the first deliveries occurred but, unless Audi is wrong, they weren't a couple months ago. Perhaps you guys roll with VIPs who get their cars really early! Audi of America press release July 23: HERNDON, Va., July 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Audi today announced that pricing for the new 2011 R8 Spyder 5.2 quattro® supercar will begin at $161,000 with the first of the hand-assembled models reaching U.S. showrooms as soon as next month. I don't know, "supercar" seems a bit over the top.
Fantastic. Are they doing manual v10 spyders too or all R-tronic? Also, do you know if there is a "full grill" option for states that don't need a front plate? (yay Nevada)
"Are they doing manual v10 spyders too or all R-tronic?" Yes, they are doing manuals, and that's probably the way to go. Though I have to say the full auto function is nice. On the full grill option, I requested a non front license plate grill, but it doesn't look like I got it, does it?
There was only one R8 Spyder in the US through July. Audi NA was touring the car around the country to magazines, and prime dealers all summer.
okay, fine, you guys are right. the one I saw on the street in March was clearly a space ship. the one I saw in a dealer showroom in early May must have been a hallucination. A good hallucination, too, because I could have sworn that the sales guy I talked to mentioned open delivery spots available. maybe I was talking to my neighbor's cat again. Stephen clearly takes the same drugs I take, because he saw one too. In his neighbor's driveway, no less. geez people, why so uptight about delivery dates on an Audi?
Maybe that was the case with the V10 spyder... the Audi NA rep said specifically it was the only one in the US, and was bearing a MFR plate. I didn't ask if there were other v8 spyders.
"geez people, why so uptight about delivery dates on an Audi?" Because you don't know what you're talking about? Maybe you saw something else .... The V8 Spyder is anticipated early next year.
You popped up on the thread, as far as I can tell, for the sole purpose of telling us that R8 Spyders have been selling for months. We correct you, then you come back and give us more wrong information. Even showed you an Audi press release; I guess you know more than Audi? Just stick to stuff you know something about.
