I'm in trouble now, I just discovered they have a pretty good online version of Magic The Gathering. Back in my Sprint days some of the top IT architects, executives, and I would play Magic The Gathering at lunch. This was all 1999-2003. It was so much fun and I built a pretty good collection. We even played weekend tournaments and I even won one. Towards the end with Sprint layoffs everyone stopped playing and then I left Sprint myself in 2004, I never found anyone else to play with although I still have my collection.

I'm really excited, not sure if I will get over it in a few hours of play or get deep into it like I use to be.

Im surprised Magic has stayed relevant. I designed the toys over ten years ago.

its really a brilliant game... the strategy of chess, collectability of baseball cards, and social interaction of poker.

Oh man, I was into this game back in the late 90s and early 2000s! I had thousands invested in my collection. I lucked out and sold it off in time to recoup a good chunk of my money. I had several rare cards too, form the Beta set (ie. the power 9 or whatever they were called) and plenty of other highly sought after cards (ie. Mana Drain, Force of Will, those rare lands cards too).

I didn't know MTG was still alive and well today.

I used to play a little back in high school (mid-'90s) but haven't since then and sold my cards long ago. Recently, I was looking up a HS friend on Facebook who used to be VERY into the game back then and whom I used to play the game with during lunch. Turns out, he won some U.S. Magic competition last year and ended up going to the finals in Amsterdam. Recently, he even started working for the company that makes the game.

And I had no idea anyone still played Magic!

I still have all my old cards, but not many too valuable, maybe some $2-10 cards at most.

Look at this Black Lotus going for $11,500.

I didn't think many played with actual cards anymore, this winter in Taos, NM we found a shop off the town square and there were several people playing.

The online is great except that they still get the same price per pack for virtual cards and some virtual cards worth as much as their real cards.

My Elf Tribe deck I'm playing now probably cost me $80-100 and it isn't even real!

I get killed at it, but my favorite is the pack draft tournaments.

    Welcome to 1999 :)

I guess I could sell some of my cards now as I had a deck that had a part-exchange value of ... probably around 400 dollars (of 1999).

Just wait till you guys meet a girl! You'll toss those cards right out the window. Just kidding I played with a borrowed set a few times. Just never got into it.

Wow!!! I sold my Beta Lotus for $700USD back in 2004!!! Jeeeesus, 11 grand?!

As for the online version, I got out of MTG right when the online stuff was released. But the pricing back then was still the same as the physical, real cards. Which was absurd then, considering the online version hadn't picked up much steam.
