308 leather seats?

I need to replace the leather covers in an 84
308 anyone have an idea as to what
I should expect to pay, and who would be
a reliable supplier

 

IMO - I would give the following advice. I purchase seat covers for my 1979 GTB and they cost me about $1,500. I had them installed by high end trim shop in the area. The covers were slightly bigger than the seats (the seat foam shrink from heat over the years) and I had to have the covers modified by the trim shop. I felt like I gave away $1,000 because the covers did not fit correctly. I would suggest taking the seats to quality trim shop and have them make or purchasing the covers for you.

But, that new leather sure does look great!

Plenty of threads but be sure to search 'leather seats' in THIS forum using advanced search. Average cost appears just north of $2k and no lack of suppliers.

Terry I guess I would need to know what kind of 308 owner your are. There is the low cost DIY type that looks at keeping cost down and then there is the middle type who would do the small stuff but farm out the big item and then there is the my mechanic will fix it and use OEM Ferrari stuff.
So I am the low to middle type and because I don't have a leather sewing machine I would do the following. I would check around with the Hot Rod / custom car guys and ask who does their interiors. I'd pull my seats and take them to who ever is the best and ask if he can make me new leather covers.Take a look at some of his work and get a price. Based on some work I have seen I would not spend more then $1K on seats and door skins. A little more if he has to cut new foam.

Not sure, tell Gahh you have a Ferrari 308 w/ tan and they'll know the exact color.

 

There's more than one Ferrari "Tan" and as mentioned above, you really should have the shop redo the foam at the same time, false economy to leave 30 year old foam at this point.

The Dino Section has agreat thread about rebuilding seats, same theory applies to our 308s.

I think that's why you see wrinkles in some new jobs, they used the old foam!

 

All new foam in mine, dynamat under the carpet too, well worth the extra.

Tex, are you sure about this? The Wynn Ferrari upholstery shop where I had my seats done told me the tan color in my car is what's still used in current tan Ferrari leather. They showed me a sample of some they'd used this month on a F430 headliner and the color was identical to mine.

When I called Gahh, there wasn't even a question. I told the guy my year and model and he rattled off some leather color ID number like he'd done it a thousand times.

 

Thoughts on the Dynamat please.

When I looked into Dynamat, the conclusion was = you can add 200# of leadloaded material without making much of a dent into road noise through the floor.

 

I also decided against Dynamat during my recarpet job. Seems to me the sandwich construction of the floor has pretty good insulation already.

THe dynamat should cut down on the vibration noise. I dyamat-ed the entire interior of a Toyota FJ (07) I own (a few years ago)... gutted the entire vehicle, did the ceiling, doors, foors, everything. The car is dead quiet inside. Very nice "solid" feeling truck (& quiet). The dynamat will simply kill the sound reverberation throughout the vehicle. The stereo sounds awesome now too. Bonus.

 

In my opinion, that is one of the most compelling aspects of 308 ownership, that you can hear all of the noise. Not sure that I would want that to go away, let alone pay for it.

 

Anyone know if the fronts can be sold as a upper seat back and or bottom? I figure black might blend easily , to replace just the bottoms

 

Sorry, late return to the question...I had a blue car the interior was Crema, I would have called it "light tan" or perhaps "coffee with cream" which is perhaps the source of the Italian designation.

 

I have done exactly that, the Trim Shop sourced a hide with effect to "blend in", but be warned that age is age, and the rest of the interior went South not long after, splitting seams, cracking of the head rest materials..

Even my steering wheel is "going alligator'!!
1976 is a long time for leather.

 

At one point years ago GAHH sent me a small handful of tan leather swatches(?) because indeed there was more than one choice. Same with the carpet.

NVX as an alternative to dynamat - no weight advantage but was able to drop the cabin temperature from the flooring a bit. NO objective measurements done. Also tinted the inside of the windshield to reduce IR heat in the cabin. now can run AC on setting 2 instead of 4

 

My interior is from GAHH and they did send me samples, (I wanted to convert to tan) but they recommended that I stay with the original "Bordeaux" so that's what I did and I still love it, over 10 years later!

 

Crema is the name given to the “foam” on top of an espresso.
