I have a Nikon D3000 and I'm in the market for a wide angle lens. I know Nikon has a few wide-angle lenses available. When I was shopping around, a salesman showed me a Sigma Wide-angle lens that was compatible with the Nikon D3000. The sigma was reasonably cheaper. Does Sigma make quality lenses? should I go with the Nikon version instead? Thanks,

I *had* their 20mm f1.8, the quality was awful. I'm sure they have some that are good, but I doubt I'll another.

I also borrowed the 10-20 from a friend when I first got my camera. Played around with it. Didn't know what to expect so can't really comment on quality as it was the first time I used a wide-angle. Here's a photo using it.

What he said. Except on a T2i.

I just bought the 10-20mm about two weeks ago.

Bought it off Used Victoria (local buy and sell website) for $475 with a 77mm UV and Polarizer. Mint condition, in box. The damn thing retails for ~$700 up here. And the filters together new would have been about $300, I figure I got it for half off!

As for the lens itself, I've been using it nonstop since I got it. My 18-55mm never gets used anymore, it's either the wide angle or a 50mm f-1.8 .

I have a Sigma 10-20 and 70-200, both great lenses, espcially when you compare their price to the Nikon equivalent. The 10-20 does have a reputation for dodgy QC, (can be slightly soft on one side), so make sure to take some test shots and exchange it for a fresh one if need be.

When shopping for Sigma lenses go with the EX line as they are there professional grade.

I have a Sigma 120-300 f/2.8 EX HSM that I have used since 2004 without any issues. Here is a shot taken with my old D-100.

I've used a Sigma 28-200mmD with a D70 for a few years. Nothing fancy but it seems to work just fine. One of these days I'll get a fancy and bigger Nikkor and maybe a fancy new Nikon, but until then this combo seems to work just fine.
