Here is a clipping from this months Car Magazine in which Luca says there will be no 458 Scud "I can't create an aeroplane!" Do you think it's just a smoke screen to keep selling 458s? S. Image Unavailable, Please Login
some say the a Scud version was planned until the 458 recall. Turns out the scud was to be put together w/ the same adhesive in question.
They could do alot to make the 458 lighter even using some of ther same ideas from the scud and CS. CF front diffuser, rear, doors, no carpet etc. They know there is a huge market for a lighter racier version. They just want you to buy the standard 458 and trade for the light weight version. Ferrari master marketing at its best
Never say never.... Wait until the McLaren hits the streets. You'll see a change in attitude. But, you have to wonder who would need a sub 3 second 0 to 60 car for the street. At some point, it gets to be ridiculous playing "can you top this".
Exactly. They have to answer when this car comes to market but right now they have to sell the coupes. The power and weight of the McLaren is around what you would expect for the 458 "Scuderia" if history repeats itself. McLaren can easily shave weight off their car and add power. It's not as easy for the 458 to match it. From a performance perspective, the 458 is going to be blown away. It's too bad the McLaren doesn't look crazier. If they gave it a mild update to make it look more aggressive like those GT car photoshops someone on here made up, Ferrari should be very concerned.
mp4-12c can't shave much weight...458 does. For example oakley design did a 458 that has 65kg down only by putting new weels and new exhaust. New ecu- 627hp.... 0-62mph -3seconds. over 335km/h 208mph I think 458 can loose 100kg very easy. Not even taking a stradale/scuderia aproach.
LOL. He may as well have said "We will be ignoring a huge profit center just because." He could have at least said something like "The 458M will be a different kind of special edition". That would have been half way believable.
i remember someone making this point before release scud version immediately = 1 sale vanilla then scud = vanilla sold twice + scud = 3 sales they want everyone to get everyone holding out for the scud version to buy their first 458 before announcing the scud version
It's just a marketing ploy. After the success of the CS and the Scud, it's only natural people would be asking for more. He's just distracting everyone.
They will make one, but it won't be called a scuderia. At 300K, the profit margin on scuds had to be incredible. Dave
'I have no intention of doing a 458 Scuderia - I can't create and aeroplane!' LdM Well LdM speaks the truth, he is investing in a new train; not building a Scuderia. As for missing out on some Scuderia build profits; the Ferrari store pays them 40 million Euros a year and they don't even spend a penny of their own money on the store to promote it. They are simply handed 40M from it. The 458 Scuderia would likely steal sales or at the very least production space from the standard car offering little incentive for a variation to be built. The 458 will still get a horsepower increase down the road in it's model cycle... CH
LdM is saying exactly what he should. There is NO point officially taking about future product. Task at hand is to sell what your producing now.
Exactly. But what Fiat tells it's institutional shareholders is more serious and there will be a 458 Scud and any other expensive limited production model they can think of to shift the last carcasses at a premium
Sounds like when an f1 team and driver deny unequivocally all rumors... then... three months later, guess who's gonna drive for... I'll believe it when I see it.
I'm sure there is a quote somewhere with someone stating that they will not build a 430 Stradale. I'm sure they will not build a 458 Scuderia. It will be called something else.
