Immitation is the sincerest form of flattery. The P4/5 influence is strong.

The side profile, without comparing the two (picture by picture), is strikingly similar. Reminds me of the Arash supercar: Too many Enzo lines.

    Flattering P4/5.

I was speaking about the car, not the designer.

Do you not sometimes wish that P4/5 remain an exclusive thing, or are you cool with it being used as a template for current Supercar design? (I can see it both ways)

This is a hard and complex question. When I commissioned P 4/5 I gave Pininfarina a very specific assignment.

Take the newest Ferrari Supercar strip it down to the chassis and build and engineer a new Supercar that pays Homage to my P 3/4 and the other great Ferrari Sports Racing Cars specifically the 512S/M and PF's Dino Competizione. I sent 0846 to PF to act as a Muse. The main Stylist was Jason (Who is The Stylist of this new SSC) but many people such as Paolo Garella, Andera Pininfarina, Sal Barone and me had a LOT of input and we were building on the great Engineering of Ferrari and using many Ferrari Design Cues. When Andrea first saw P 4/5 he told me: "Jim you have ended by business." I take that to mean that all of us had successfully incorporated the Spirit of Ferrari Sports Racing Cars. As an aside this is what customers used to do as evidenced by the "debate" about the SV Jota. A Customer sent his SV back to the Factory and they modified it along the lines of the original Jota which as you have pointed out there was only one and it was destroyed but to me this one is of course a Jota as it was Modified in period by the Factory. It's fully disclosed so why some feel it necessary to argue about how many Angels can Dance on the head of a pin is beyond me. I was carrying on a long tradition and P 4/5 is the result. When Ferrari finally saw what we'd done even though they arrived livid at us for having so done when Luca saw P 4/5 for the first time he took a calming breath and agreed that P 4/5 was a Ferrari.

Moving on to SSC. SSC began as a Diablo replica morphed into a Supercar but not a Supercar as the Enzo/Bugatti/CGT/918/M1/Reveton are Supercars. Those Supercars are full production vehicles that meet all world wide safety and emission standards and have been crash tested etc. (All of the modifications that became P 4/5 also meet those standards and all of it's structure has been crash tested {Virtually}) I'm not sure how SSC meets those standards and is legal but I've been told it is. Now SSC wants to move along into a "real" Supercar and from what I've been told the next one will have a Carbon Fiber chassis and be totally designed from the ground up. This is an enormous undertaking. I did it but I didn't start from the ground up but started with an enormous amount of excellent engineering and built on that. I hope they can pull it off but still believe it will be an very difficult thing to do. As for the design I do feel that it borrows from P 4/5 but fully acknowledge that P 4/5 borrowed from Ferrari Sports Racers and Pininfarina's Dino Competizione. Is it a Clone of P 4/5? No it's not. Not sure if my ramblings even answered your question but I hope it has.

    Best!

I just hope you dont feel cheated, (as in hey they ripped off my P 4/5) I didnt think you looked too thrilled in the video thats been posted online of the SSC unveiling. Though as you say your P 4/5 borrowed from past inspiration.
But i take from your above post that you are, ok overall with what they are doing, afterall Jason is involved. Regards Alan W.

What transmission is in P4/5, is it the stock Enzo unit? I have been wondering if you ever have the itch to upgrade to a superfast unit or even a dual clutch transmission.

    That may happen.

    :)

    It's also possible that P 4/5 C will be a Villa d'Este.

Would you get consider buying one might be the better question. It does look good... in fact, in some ways, it looks... cough cough... very good indeed.

when you mentioned "the next ultimate aero" being a CF chassis, did you mean II, or some future III?
