Yes, definitely replace the factory speakers as well as the subs (really on one sub and a passive radiator on the factor hi-fi box) They really are all garbage. I used an alpine component setup for the door units and tweeters and put two JL subs in the factory box. Alpine amp in the front compartment under a false floor with the nav/XM units.

I say 'I' but had a shop do the work. Also have a reverse camera in a license plate surround; no holes drilled anywhere and can all be easily brought back to stock.

That head unit looks great!

 

I would change the whole system. As I stated in another thread, I recently upgraded my F430 audio system:
Alpine CDA 9886 head unit
Focal K2 165KR speakers in the doors
JL 8W3V38 8-inch sub in a black leather enclosure (I have black carpeting with black inserts in the tan leather so it looks good) behind the passenger seat, no seat restriction
Alpine PDX 4.100 amp installed in the trunk with a carpeted fiberboard cover (beneath a false bottom)

The new system sounds fantastic compared to the stock system. (In fact the old speakers which were paper were cracking which probably was the reason the original system sounded soooo bad.)

I would certainly replace the stock speakers. Focals are great. I went with the K2s but the cheaper polyglass aren't bad either.

John has some excellent suggestions above. When I get home and can pull my paperwork I can get you the exact specs of each compartment. The reverse camera is a fairly cheap one that is integrated to the license plate surround. I say cheap because I've just burned up the second one. I think the engine heat is too much for the line running back to it.

If I had to do it over I would go with a custom enclosure behind the seats rather than trying to make the factory box work. It doesn't thump NEAR like I want it to. Do a search here, there's some amazing work done by some of the sound guys on this site.

Can someone help me please? I want to install a new head unit into my 360, but can't figure out what adapter I need to purchase (for the wiring into the back of the head unit), and the local stereo shops don't know either.
One guy said Volkswagen??

 

If it's the stock system it's a becker. The wiring harness is EXACTLY the same as a blaupunkt for the lower two plastic harnesses in the back of the unit. If you get a blaupunkt it's probably plug and play. The upper most plastic harness/clip may be different based on the amp/phone/aux out...

Again, if it's a becker it should be exactly the same harness in the back of the unit as a blaupunkt...

Forgive me, but I am still confused. The wiring harness section of the web sites I visit, ask me the make, model and year of the car I'm trying to fit. So what do I put in there? Ferrari isn't even listed.

 

I never use my Hi-Fi as the best sound is right behind me. I've only ever switched it on once and that was only to make sure that it worked! 3+ years of ownership and never listened to it.

Sorry if I was vague.. let me try with some pictures.. I was assuming that you had an original radio that looks like this (only ferrari...not porsche):

if so, this is an original Becker radio. The back of the radio will look like this:

Those plugs/connectors on the right hand side of the radio come out. The lowest provides power and such, the middle provides speakers and the upper manages the CD changer.

If you get a blaupunkt radio, you *should* be able to remove the plugs/connectors on the stock unit and simply plug them into the new blaupunkt (I think the connectors are the same with the new blaupunkts... not 100% sure though).

If you opt to install a different radio, you can use an adaptor to this wiring harness like this to connecto to the existing wire harness and adapt to your new radio... (Crutchfield may have these... )

By the way, the radio is the same size (DIN opening) as in the 97 to 2004 boxsters and 911's.. try this size on the online guides for radios...

As an aside, if the stereo guys have no idea what you're talking about.. I wouldn't let them touch my car...

I never really enjoyed having any music on in my car. The engine sound just made it a mix of engine and tunes. TBH I lost the radio code and never bothered to find it, that was 2 years ago.

 

I wanted to drive my F430 a lot. That means commuting. GPS, iPod (for audio books), Sirius radio for talk when the audio book gets boring, etc. All the creature comforts I'm used to in other vehicles.

Over the past week, I installed a Kenwood eXelon KVT-696 and am quite happy with it. Lots of modules to hide, but luckily the Ferrari dash is really open and easy to access. I hid the sirius and GPS antennas under the instrument cluster leather cover (the factory GPS antenna goes there). It's really simple to remove the cover.

Ok you deserve to hear more than that-- the 430 was a stretch, and I was not driving it enough to get my money back out of it. I did make it a daily driver with this stereo and nav, Bluetooth, etc. But I couldn't park it where I wanted to. I'm an old Porsche guy. I didn't worry about where I parked those. So it all came together and I decided it was time to move on.

My plan is to buy a scud for our local private track once the market settles down, my consulting gets more steady, etc., and keep it garaged at the track.

F430 is a fantastic car.

I had chosen to go with the Alpine IDA-100 which is a dedicated iPod unit, works Fantastic not to mention it compliments the interior well.
