quite a few of the european Geese were delivered with 289 HP's fitted.
Interesting. I believe that's Pantera plaque the GVW is wrong and the F/R weight and ratio is also way off. Denis
Hmmm...my Goose doesn't have anything like that either. Just a plaque in the front trunk and an engraved number in the engine bay
I would agree that the plate is curious. Also, I've never seen a Mangusta with a front compartment that wasn't completely upholstered. There aren't any plain sheet metal sufaces like that. If indeed this is the car that was totalled in the gumball rally they would have had to build up an entirely new structure. I looked at that car when I was shopping for my Mangusta, and it was really a mess. Pantera International had parted out nearly everything and what was left was severely kinked up. there are going to be more 'competition' Mangusta's now than there have ever been before in time with these conversions....it is the only logical thing to do with some examples out there that are in states of disrepair and missing parts. I know of another that was marked for some modification to a 'race' or even a remake of the prototype, but it may have actually made it's way to a european restorer.
You wrote modification and I read mortification. Either the coffee hasn't kicked in or I had an internal Freudian slip.
for those that want or appreciate an 'original' this one just came up on eBay, it went unsold the last time it was on eBay last year, fwiw http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280558008787&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT#ht_500wt_1129 ...it does look a little rough, but would be interesting to see it 'freshened up' not affiliated with the car or sale
I have a bit of video but I'm not sure how to post it. Until then I hope that these are enjoyed Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I'm impressed, no major additional bracing in the original frame set-up new spindles and half shafts, relocated torsion bar. Very nice Denis
Here is an image of the Mangusta at Lime Rock this weekend: http://www.sportscardigest.com/lime-rock-historic-festival-2010-results-and-photo-gallery/ Image Unavailable, Please Login
I noticed that the seller priced this right where last year's attempt stalled, if I am not mistaken, he now has one bid at $58K and has lowered the reserve to a penny more....there it is, an all original 'goose' at a seemingly attractive price. Think anyone will bid and buy now?
eBay has much (not to say strange) psycology, in this case it is not a 'buy-it-now' scenario. To place an additional bid may create an auction something the seller wants and the buyer does not want. Also how do we know the current bid is not for 65K? The system will not allow the potential buyer to bid against himself. Other scenario from the usual suspects are the 'snipers' who will literally wait to the last second; see the Mangusta tool roll, it went from $450 to $1300 in the last 40 seconds And, if as stated the reserve is 1 dollar over the offer, the sale might still happen as a 'second chance' after the clock has stopped ticking. I just wish Lee the best on his auction. Denis
Seems like a very cheap price, since most Geese have been getting 90-120K this year. Lots of corrosion everywhere on this one, and its not a quad headlight, but still seems like a good price, even for number 4 car. Has anyone seen steering wheel wood that red of a color before on a Goose? Are the Ansa stickers on the right muffler tips (passenger side of tips 2 and 4 counting from the left, as opposed to drivers side of tips 1 and 3)?
Denis, very thorough explanation of the eBay world. Apparently you know the owner "Lee", do you know this particular car? Any evaluation on it's condition? In some photos it does look a little rough, but rust is the only REAL enemy, everything else can be rebuilt or refurbished or touched up....depending on level of clean up it requires, original patina = GOOD, original with rust and deterioration = BAD
Auburn auction this weekend A Mangusta was a no sale at 62K. Looking at the results very little of anything sold so I don't know how strong an indicator that price is.
eBay listing has become 'tainted' now...seems the one bid shown earlier has been retracted?...now zero bids?
Again, eBay is a strange place, you can retract your add all the way up to -24h01 from the end of auction. Car may have been posted somewhere else and sold, or someone sent an e-mail and bought the car for more than the latest bid. Either way the sale commision would be saved ($2K) . As stated, just like 'real' auctions the real action happens in the last few minutes, but the owner may have decided to go the other route. I am not worried about the quality of this car, yes I have a few items I would check, just like any other 40 yr old car but would have bought it as a restorable car in a flash.(if I had the room) PS Mike What's this? 5am and you're on the web. don't you ever sleep?
