There is an official recall as of this evening on all 458. The cause of the fire has been determined by Ferrari to be an adhesive used in the heat shields in the rear fenders, which will be replaced with rivets as it can ignite at high temperatures.

This is unrelated to the previously discussed campaign 336 to replace the vent, or any other fumes/vapor situation that was speculated.

No biggie. It's just that people keep going into panic mode at every "new" case.

If you read the article, it says that 11 had crashed, but "only" 4 or 5 have gone up in flames. And IIRC a few of those caught fire after a crash.

And one gone in a warehouse fire, so that doesn't count.

Not my experience. Would never even occur to me. I could have picked the car up at end of August and will not pick it up until early September and dealer does not seem to care one bit

You have a good one then!

Sad to read about the recall. Who does not test the glue in a freeking heat shield? Damn!

Probably Chinese adhesive and the vendor changed spec after getting the contract to supply Ferrari...

I think they mentioned that they got a bad batch of the adhesive and could not specify which cars were affected so they did a recall to all of them.

This has happened before to other giants (Perrier, Coca Cola spring to mind).
Rather than destroy your reputation admit an "error" for the public to accept and forgive.
It is a fact though that the race to more horse power is rid with such problems as heat and its, impossible, dissipation.
Hope it works out for them but the "reason" seems more than childish....

Maybe the the new 458 should have a sticker on the side of it. " Caution, Highly Flammable"

Who did we blame stuff on before China became an emerging nation?

I understand what you're saying but it's well known that China does not have the same "quality assurance" policies as the rest of the world

My car is on the water now. If there is a smore's kit on the front seat when I pick it up - I will be concerned! :)
