I have a 2002 360 with 7,000 miles. One of my rear tires, a Pzero 275/40 zr18 has a bubble in the side wall. Does anybody know where I might find this tire? The tirerack.com has it back ordered for at least another 60 days and my local dealers get their inventory from them. Thanks for any help.

I just ordered 2 Pirelli P-zeros from Discounttires.com. They had them in stock (great since I was ordering a hard to get size 355/25/19) AND they were $30 less than Tire Rack.

If the tires are original to the car's build date, I would seriously consider replacing them all. They are at least 8, and perhaps 9 year old. Many tire manufacturers recommend replacement after 6 or 7 years.

You can read the actual date the tire was made by following the information at this link:
    http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/techpage.jsp?techid=11

Also, consider that the bubble in the tire sidewall may not be a defect, but could be age related.

You definitely don't want to replace just the one tire - always replace in matched pairs at a minimum. And, as suggested above, if the tires are 8 or 9 years old then it's probably time to replace all four regardless of wear. Good tires make all the difference in the world from a performance standpoint, and your safety is enhanced as well!

+1 re replacing at least 2, best if you do all 4 due to age. You do 2 at a time because you don't want a different outer circumference on one side vs. the other, even if the tires are otherwise identical. The tires on my car when I got it dated back to 2003. While they had some tread left (above legal limit, but just) they were hard, noisy and didn't seem to grip very well. Swapping them for new RE-11s made a huge difference and I don't worry as much about a tire failure now (wish I'd have installed a tire pressure monitor system kit when the tires were off - how can Ferrari have no spare and no TPMS? Even BMW has some kind of flat monitoring in their M cars).

Thank you all. I found and ordered The tires on directdiscounttires.com. I did order both rear tires as suggested. I also agree that the bubble was a result of age and not a defect. I will have to scrutinize the front tires this weekend. Fortunately the bubble was on the outside wall. With a small hairline crack right on the bubble, this was a blowout for sure. If not for having backed the car out to wash it I might not have seen this in time. Thanks again.

Re inspection of front tires, keep in mind that visual observation may not reveal defects in the carcass, belts or belt caps. They may not give visual indication of imminent failure (like a bubble or crack) like the other tires. If these tires are of the same age, the fronts are likely candidates for replacement, even if the visual inspection doesn't reveal anything obvious. It's your money, but it's also your life/your car, so it's up to you.

Discounttiredirect just called to tell me they didn't have them in stock either. I went for 4 Bridgestone S-02A's. Your right about the peace of mind factor. Thanks again.

I'm glad you chose to replace them all. An acquaintance of mine and his companion were killed in a terrible accident in his Ferrari that was partly due to old tires. The car was purchased with only a few thousand miles on it, but the tires were 15 years old! I still regret that I was never able to advise him of this danger. In fact I did not know of his purchase, until the accident.

Having to attend his memorial service was a very unpleasant experience... :(
