I have run the season's point totals using last year's system to see how much the new system has affected the results and there isn't much difference. The big one is that Hamilton would be leading Webber by one point using last year's system. Since Webber has won four races and Hamilton three, the new system is doing what it is supposed to do, reward wins. The other main difference is that under last year's system Button would be tied with Alonso, and Alonso has won three races versus two for Button; so again the new system does what it is supposed to be doing. The only other change in order is that Buemi and De la Rosa would reverse order at the bottom. It will be interesting to see how this works out at season's end.

I love the new points system. The only problem is: They should award points for Qualifying and fastest lap. EVERY POINT COUNTS!!!

I think the new system is working well, much better than the medals idea Bernie proposed.

no way for fastest lap, Kimi got heaps of them but didn't mean a thing as the leaader is protecting his car, the losers can run the car ragged on low fuel to get their name in the books, big deal

If points were awarded for fastest lap wouldn't it mean the leader would have less incentive for car protection though? Seems like it would add more uncertainty in the championship - which is a good thing.

Depends if you got a point for every fasted lap you set or just the fastest lap of the race.
