I need to meet up with one of my old coworkers while in Brisbane as well. I am going to tentatively tell her Wednesday evening because based on these posts Thursday or Friday work better for most of you guys.

Starting to get excited about the trip; my students arrived in Mt. Isa yesterday and have sent back some funny stories about the trip & the relative culture shock.

That's got a nice beat, and you can dance to it! So long as it's the Texas Two-step. There's a lot to be said for the culture of Texas . . . give me some time, I'll get it. Oh yeah, OIL. And of course it brought us all together. Thanks Rob.

Jennie and I are looking for day stuff in Brisbane. Here are some general things we like...

    1) Beaches! Both of us growing up in Kansas and now living in Dallas we've been land locked. We take advantage anytime close to a beech. I guess being spring there and 75 degrees (F) isn't too favorable for swimming yet? :)

    2) Running & Hiking - We can find a place to run anywhere, but some cool places to hike?

    3) Fishing - Not sure I would want to do a full day trip, but are there any half day trips and how's the charter fishing out of Brisbane? Inland fishing?

    4) Flying - Might be interested in a aerial tour or even find a local flight school that will let me fly with an instructor.

    5) Drinking - Any good English style pubs? ;)

you sound like you need to spend all your time on the Gold Coast, Brisbane is a desert filled with rednecks and mud beaches.

We have sharks of both kinds on the GC but you can go for hikes in the Tamborine Mts, book touristy flights out of Coolangatta (part of the GC), half or full day fishing charters and naturally excelelnt beaches.

Google fishing charters on the Gold Coast for prices but was about $120 last time I looked, couple a hundred bucks will get you a flight over the southern coastline, hiking through the rainforests 30-40 kms inland from the Gold Coast are well worth the trip

We try to limit the English style pubs to ONE, that's enough and it's haunted by uni students

As for the beaches , go north or south because it's only mud around Brisbane , and the temp is about 26 degrees (roughly 85 in the wrong money) with water temp of about 18-19 degrees Celcius, warm enough for you rugged outdoorsey type :p

The fishing is terrible though, we have to throw back the fish under 100lbs, or use it as bait

The Gold Coast is the place to be! :D:D

Its just over an hour train ride from Brisbane. Costs around $20 one way from memory. :D:D

A few Fchatters live down that way, hopefully they can chime in and show ya around. :D:D

Or perhaps someone is kind enough to pick you up from Brissy and take you down to the GC. :D:D

I love that place and will live there one day.:eek:

There's heaps of flight schools, joy flights, etc in Brisbane split into two groups. Redcliffe airfield in the northern outskirts and Archerfield in the south.
Further south theres a smaller cluster of schools and joy flights etc at Gold Coast Airport. It's main runway split by the Qld-NSW border. lolz
They're all online these days and a search should turn up whatever you want to do. Keywords "flight schools brisbane" and "flight schools Gold Coast".
