Very quiet on this thread! Are you all out driving your cars and too busy to post? how many Khamsins were there at the meeting in Sweden? Would have loved to have gone but had wok commitments I couldn't get out of. Paul xx
Khamsins were well represented in Sweden; at least four or five cars (I'm not sure if one or two were local cars that did not offically take part), of which at least one did a number of laps at Ring Knutstorp. Cheers, Gabriel
You will find pictures of the meeting in the "Intl Maser club meet in Bastad Sweden sept 2 to 5" thread on this forum, especially post#25. Gabriel
Hi All As things are quite on here its a good time to ask a question. I am chasing radiator hoses for some local cars to replace the make shift hoses. MIE dont have any, does anyone know of any new old stock supplies? Other option is to have some Silicone hoses made (black) is any one interested? Cheers Graeme
Hello all: This was during the International Maserati meeting in Sweden, at Ring Knutstorp circuit, AM120082 Fredrick's car in a non original but very attractive emerald green, with a young lady who is a Swedish TV star and before you ask no chance she was the date of the Swedish Maserati Ferrari importer. When I grow up cough cough all I want is in that photo! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Here are the four cars that were at the event: Fredrik's car AM120082, Brian's rhd AM120413 from Scotland (he and his wife were at the Intl meet in Goodwood last year) AM120US1222 of Henrik very nice guy who attended part of the event. Missing from the line up is Ulf's car 076 (Ulf posts here occasionally) we tried to do a line up at the track on the saturday but he could not come that day unfortunately, it is the car on the right in the second photo. Somehow I di not take that many photos of it but Ulf has provided quite a few posted here previously. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Most photos are in my cell and I have to email each one to get it into my laptop which is tedious so will post them later little by little. Here are two shots of Brian's 413, one showing it next to 076 the color of which is an interesting blue green and Fredrik's 082. best regards, Marc
Marc, Those are nice high beams on that model. Oh wait, the headlamps are down ... So this is what side tracked your visit to the replica Thepenier??? You have my complete understanding ... The green colour is OK too! Bob S.
I would expect that you've already tried this but it doesn't hurt to suggest ... I usually take the hose in question and go to my best local professional autoparts store and ask to spend sometime alone in the radiator hose department to see if I can match-up something that can be cut-out or pieced together with some stock formed hoses. I usually can come up with something. I did this for all the hoses on the Bora. Dull black silicone would very be very nice though. Most everything over here is either hot rod shiny or blue, green or some other inappropriate color. Bob S.
Good day everybody, I am new to the forum and looking for an Euro spec. Khamsin. Checked a couple of available cars already and have two questions. Is there a key to the distribution of colours percentagewise? How many cars approximately were blu celeste? Thanx and regards Rolf
You probably all know this car, but I saw it up close a couple of weeks back when I visited the Manro Car Museum near Salzburg while I was at the Salzburgring. I couldn't get to the chassis number. The car is in pretty poor condition and showing the onset of the dreaded tin worm all over the place. There was a lovely Indy in the museum though. I believe both are also for sale. Hello Rolf and welcome. Colors: there were a lot of silver cars, not as many red ones as you see today, quite a few have unfortunately been repainted in that color. Fly yellow existed only on 7 US cars, then beyond the predictable ones there were some typical seventies colors like luci di bosco, light green, orange, burnt orange etc. Light blue is very rare, more common in right hand drive cars, I saw one at the Zurich event a few weeks ago and it is very attractive, shows the details of the body shape well. You will find a list of the colors here: http://www.maseratikhamsinregistry.com/specs_1.html Doug: Good to hear from you! So you went to see the Manro Classic car: that is my next need to see car as the colors are very attractive and they frustratingly never answer chassis number requests. Pity you did not get it. How is your car progresssing? best regards, Marc
Thank you Marc, one very late car I am checking is metallic black, black leather and has all brightwork blackened. Was that a factory option? Is it painted or somehow anodized? How many cars appr. were nero metallizzato? Rolf
Hi Bob Thanks or the tip however I am trying to aviod the bodged look. Khamsin Hoses were very thick about 6mm or 1/4 inch and were very high quality. Even the cotton braded fue hoses surpass any thing I found to replace them. Silicone even in gloss black will not look out of place. Problem I have run into is getting an original to use as a sample to have copied MIE though they had one but to no luck. Any one have a set of old radiator hoses for a Khamsin? Graeme
Hi All, Any of you had experience in dismantling the heart? My guys have come across an issue removing the timing chain sprocket off the end of the crankshaft. It is an interference fit and according to the info I can find has to be heated to allow removal/ installation. However the one on my car is refusing to budge (been on for 30 years). Any tips would be welcome, though I am of the thought that it may have to be replaced as the cranksaft is more important if they have to resort to other methods of removal. Bal
Hello Rolf: it appears that a few late cars had the trim blackened like that: 404 which was for sale at Auto salon Stich in Vienna a couple of years ago and is now in Belgium has it as does 1174 currently available through a well known US dealer. 404 also has tridents in the middle of the decorative wheel hub which hides the real wheel bolts. Here is the only photo of 404 I have. The irony is that another Italian sportscar which flexed like overcooked linguini when driven hard and had a marked desire to impersonate an airplane at speed initially had its chromes blackened but as the black covering would come off with the slightest scratch they reverted to plain chrome for later models so they went the other way. I did not go through the number of cars per color with sig. Cozza, sorry, but it is a fairly rare color. best regards, Marc Image Unavailable, Please Login
Marc, Don't worry, I will be there again in October as I have a holiday home nearby so I will be more persistent with the guys there. It was too busy the last time I was there to talk about the cars and look inside/around it properly. My own Khamsin is coming along nicely and will be ready for paint in the next few weeks. Doug
Thanks Doug: have been curious about the Manro classic car for a long time, your photo reveals it is a late car as it has the trunk cover blind. There is no email contact or phone number in their website but I suppose a fax ahead of time can only help to get the hood opened! Look forward to seeing your finished car, am sure it will be right up amongst the very best! best regards, Marc PS: There are all sorts of things on the internet and Google fished this photo up: would that be your car's bodyshell errr hosting the other? Not that many khamsins get stripped for lack of a better word. Unusual to say the least. there were only a couple of photos and whoever took them and the model was very respectful of the car which is not always the case. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hello Bal.. I to ran into this issue while disassembling my Ghibli SS engine.. Engines are basically the same, ie: dry sump, etc... etc... Removing this gear/sprocket is a real PIA... I tried various methods with no luck... In order to remove the sprocket, I used a special gear puller from MIE... It is available for rent.. The puller itself is not the hammer style, but rather one that is threaded... I would think you should be able to find something that would work for you locally!! Let me know if I can answer any other questions... Mike
Hi Mike, Thanks for the reply, and yes it's all the same especially if your's is a 4.9. Is MIE's puller supposed to go onto the few threads on the end of the sprocket ? I would have thought those threads would give under pressure. I take it you heated up the item to assist in removal ? Attached is a picture of the item as I saw it today. The only option for us here in the UK would be Bill McGrath's but not sure if they loan out tools. Can't harm to ask I suppose. Bal Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi Mike. This must be a late Ghibili as most were Keyed on. The Khamsin one is an interference fit. There is a Qport manual for the engine but less the dry sump. the Bearing Journal sizes are different and valve seats are cut at 90 not 120 degrees. I had an issue with the scavenge pump on my car in that the oil would drain intp the sump from the tank in the space of two weeks. I had puller made and when we checked the side clearance it was .024” not .003"-004" Some pictures of interest this is the front housing dismantled. Regards Graeme Image Unavailable, Please Login
