I was moved from the lead smelter to the labs due to high lead levels

it ain't BS, some people will rid the body of lead where others don't.

Don't get sucked in by the Exstrata BS they keep feeding people, I was tested every 6 weeks 35 years ago as they knew it was bad sh!it

Lead is an accumulative killer, takes 20+ years to take effect

Sure sure, I never said anything working in the lead smelter.

I am talking about underground. My Dad used to work in deep lead. Lead dust floated around everywhere, they wore respirators all day, everyday, 8 hr shifts back then.

I know some people rid of lead out of their system quicker than others. They test more in the lead smelter than they do in other sections of the mine.

Poor hygiene, thats how you get high lead levels when you are a kid! How else do you ingest lead?? Breath it in or consumption. We talk about this crap all the time at work.

I just came home from and lunch and over lunch I saw my 3 yr old Niece drop a chicken wing, pick it up off the floor and starting eating it again before I grabbed it from her...................and then she started crying.

Ive seen her drop food in the back yard and pick it up and start eating it. Kids will be kids. You cant watch your little ones 100% of the time. No doubt they pick up crap and stuff it into their mouths all the time.

Lead dust/dirt is everywhere in a mining town that mines lead. Its up to the parents to take care of their own. Xstrata has spent a lot of money towards the cause also.

I bet there are other mining towns with the same issue. Havent heard of them making the news. We must be the only mine in the world with kids with high lead levels. FARRRK OFF.

Its a cash cow mate! Im tempted to shovel some dirt into my mouth and jump on the band wagon.

I could score a new 458 out of this class action.

Funny you mention the sulphur.

When I was in primary school in the late 80's, 3pm everyday when walking home from school they used to dump sulphur from the lead stack.

It was HORRIBLE!! You know what its like. Sometimes, you could barely see where you were walking in front of you thats how thick the smog was. The taste and the smell was disgusting.

I bet you still remember what it tastes like?

But in the mid 90's through high school they cut that back to around once per week. Excellent!

Over the last 10 yrs or so, I rarely see or smell the sulphur in the air.

Maybe once every few years I have smelt it throughout the day.

So they have cleaned their act up there. Well, I think they built something to take care of it. Acid plant maybe?? I dont know. They built something im sure.

 

I was a very healthy boy but that sulphur use to make me sick and the doctors said the only way to fix it was to move .... so I did

 

just toughen up cry baby.

Ha! They are both in that age range. I had 'warned' one of them about you and she joked "now, be careful you could be talking about my future husband." (no, she's not really looking).
As far as culture shock, one of them is an Aggie (Texas A&M graduate) but the other one is actually from New Orleans.
