Yea, I'm not such a Jonathan Legard fan either... I've not heard any Charlie Cox commentary but if Martin Brundle rates him then I'd be happy to see him have a crack at it. All the best, Andrew.
Charlie Cox might be OK, but he does tend to waffle a bit about all manner of things not related to racing during his commentaries which I don't think Brundle would appreciate. IMHO, I think they'd be better off getting James Allen!. He's not popular with everyone but he does love F1 and knows his stuff!.
Charlie Cox is the Valentino Rossi of commentators! He would bring the commentating alive IMO. I think he would balance out with Brundle quite nicely, just as he does with Steve Parish (who's comparable to Brundle regarding knowledge and commentating). Cox does tend to play a bit with his co-commentator, making fun. But so far it has never irritated me.
It doesn't bother Me that much either and who could forget statements like: "Just loook at that Ducati on the straight, mucho mumbo there!" Hes got such bad luck that if he fell in a bucket of boobs, hed still come up sucking his thumb!. "He needs that like a third armpit!" "He's gone through the field like a pig through hot strawberries!" "He looks as happy as a bucket of sand!" However, the majority of MotoGP fans that I talk to on a regular basis say that they can't stand Cox's commentary as it's obvious he has no idea what he's talking about half the time and waffles too much for the other half.
I don't know anything about Charlie Cox, but I can't imagine anyone else not being an improvement over Legard.
Don't get Me wrong, I'd prefer Charlie Cox to Legard any day of the week, but I'd also prefer to have James Allen back rather than having Charlie Cox commentate. Charlie would probably be slightly more entertaining but Jame Allen knows his F1 inside out.
Charlie Cox and Steve Parish in my opinion are the best commentator team on UK TV. It would be a shame to split up there natural and often witty partnership. But i think that Charlie Cox would be just as good doing F1 along side Brundle. Charlie's racing background was also on 4 wheels rather than 2, and he often mentions F1 during his Moto gp commentaries, so i think he has a real passion for it. But these internet rumours seem to be just rumours, as so far there has been no named source. Im very hopeful they are more then rumours, as I'm completely tired of Jonathan Legard's biased mono-toned gibberish boring ramblings spoiling races....
This is music to my ears, I happen to like Cox and remember when he used to commentate on the BTCC and thought he was good and knew his stuff then. I too would rather see James Allen back but why not give Charlie Cox ago first. I'm a bit surprised to hear Martin Brundle himself say he's keen to see Legard 'booted' out. I hate Legard meaningless ramblings and his stupid phrases such as "Real Frustration for him there" and "Thats a real shot in the arm", These kind of comments make my want to hit him quite hard. This has also reminded me that there is MotoGP on tomorrow so thanks for that also .
Just wondering: was it James Allen that popularised the phrases "throw down the gauntlet" and "really put the hammer down" in F1 commentary? I'm not sure... I can't really remember why James Allen is so unpopular. He occasionally has a little bit of bias, but that's more than balanced out by his in-depth knowledge. I can forgive some bias and take the commentary with a grain of salt providing the guy actually knows what he's talking about - and he really does. All the best, Andrew.
Jonathan Legard seems excited to be there at the races with Mr Brundle, not sure the other names would improve much on that. Too much tinkering seems to be going on to no good end...leave well enough alone. CH
If you think Legard sounds excited to be there at races you really should hear James Allen, he's like a 14 year old schoolboy at times!. Try this out for size: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHANtHiTAx8
please let it be true... No idea who is who at the motoGP commentating team, as long as its not the bloke with the annoying voice (come to think of it, it's probably him...). What am I saying, even the little Irish man Eddie Jordan would be an improvement over JL, if only to laugh at whatever nonsense comes out of his mouth...
JL is the worst commentator on the planet. He's biased, an idiot, asks questions as if the audience (or himself) is retarded, gets excited about NOTHING (Spa for example, hamilton had a healthy 8 second lead, pitted last of his direct competition, and he gets excited that hamilton was still in the lead after the stop...despite having the sizable in the first place). In Legards own words ladies and gentlemen, getting a replacement for JL is needed. ''THIS IS CRUCIAL!!!!''
Bas turn the TV volume down, then just tune the radio till you find someone your happy listening to, if it annoys you that much. I only hear what I want to hear, can't understand the fuss.
But the rest of the BBC team are worth listening too it's just Legard, even EJ sometimes has good things to say and I'm not much of a fan. Seems a waste to go to all that trouble tuning in the radio or changing to the BBC radio 5 commentary when it's only 1 that lets it down.
I prefer Eurosport UK's MotoGP commentators Julian Ryder and Toby Moody to the Cox-led BBC team. But Cox is better than Legard.
I hear you Alex, just doesn't bother me that much, now Adverts I hate them with a passion. So The BBC IMO rocks.
No F1 on the radio here mate, and even if we had, I doubt it'd be any good because not many people in Botswana watch F1 (hell, even finding someone who knows what F1 is is a mission!). Whenever Leggard talks I just find myself saying shuuuuuuuut uuuuuup loudly...lol
true...I don't have 'the red button' anymore over here, but the whole BBC F1 team is amazing, with the exception of Leggard. If they could just do the BBC F1 watching crowd a favour and get David Croft to replace Leggard...
I hope this happens. I hated James Allen as a commentator, but I thought he was a great pit-lane reporter. I really like James Allen's website and he clearly knows his stuff, he just came accross as an irritating geek when he worked for ITV. Legard is not great. I was so happy to learn that Allen was not going to be working for BBC, and loved the first few non-Allen races, but then Legard started to annoy me more and more. I came to the conclusion that nobody can do the job as well as Murray Walker so I have resigned myself to accepting poor commentary.
I have to agree with your points. Allen is great as an F1 journalist and reporter, but he was just not a natural commentator. Legard is even worse the Allen. He rarely has anything worth saying, and his delivery is simply irritating. I have no problem with commentators having there favourites, as Legard clearly does in Hamilton and Button, but its his constant negative comments and attitude towards Schumacher and often Alonso and Ferrari that is much more concerning.
