I moved to a new place about 3 weeks ago. Ever since my face has broken out.

Is it possible that the hard water (pH) has something to do with it?

Also, the shower head is the type that mimicks a pressure washer. Could that cause skin irriation as well?

As of yesterday it seems it's starting to get back to normal, slowly.

    Thanks!

So, the answer is yes, no and maybe. Anything that pisses your skin off can cause swelling (even though it might not be enough to see). You skin is basically solid areas and holes (your pores). When you skin swells, it expands, and collapses the pores. This can theoretically increase the number of zits you are forming.

Most all acne lesions start because of increase cohesion of the corneocytes (meaning that your very top layer of dead skin cells get "sticky") and this plugs the pore openings. Sebum (oil) starts to back up and a zit is born. Facial swelling can mimic this process to a lesser degree.

I'm not aware of any studies that link water hardness to acne (though that doesn't mean that they aren't out there). Also, pH (acid/base) and hardness (dissolved minerals) are two different things. I doubt your water varies much in terms of pH.

If you just moved, I can imagine that you might be in a different environment, stress might have been up, your normal skin care routine might have been disrupted, etc. Personally, I'd hang for a couple of days and see if you continue to improve. If not, let me know and I can try to help you further.

    Thanks Scotty, much appreciated.

I am noticing my skin appears to be getting back to normal. I do think its time for me to replace my electric razor (I follow with a regular gillette, but my skin is too sensitive to use only that). I replace the blades 2x/year, but I think the motor is starting to get weak.

    Thanks again! :)

    Heres another Q?

I went to 5 or 6 pool parties in Miami this summer, outdoors in the sun for hrs of course

I had this little patch of dry skin on my shoulder so I picked at it and now it grew so its 1 or 2 mm tall circular mound on my shoulder

I scheduled a DR appt to check it out

Should I be worried about this ?

    Thanks

If Brazilian Jiu Jitsu taught me one thing it's skin care - much as we know not to pick at something on your skin, the prevalence of staph and the emergence of methycillin-resistant strains of staph and strep should be a constant reminder.

Good you have an appointment - good luck!

Sorry I didn't see this earlier--just got back from work related travel. I assume the appointment has happened by now. Small size makes me think basal cell carcinoma is a possibility (which is quite non-serious), but the list of possible diagnoses is very long. I'd usually ask more questions at this point, but I you probably know by now what is going on.

    Hope all is well.

I noticed when visiting a friend up north my skin would break out. I just assumed it's beacuse I'm accustomed to hot, humid weather like we have down south. I also get nosebleeds up there.

That's funny, because my skin clears up even more when I go to places up north, or similar to Colorado.

For the skin thing, it is often about change. Dry weather often causes nosebleed (or at least bloody snot) when you come from a more humid place. Skin adapts in several ways to its environment, and takes some time to re-adjust.

I was in Houston for 8 years (at Baylor/Tx Med Center). I miss the food, I miss some other things, I DO NOT miss the weather.

If actually a skin cancer, usually not burned off. You may be talking about pre-cancers (actinic keratoses) which are almost always burned off.
