lol we have very different ideas of what 'super low budget' is. I make movies for $500k-$2m thats not even super low budget when I have friends making them for $100k. But yes, Hollywood standards this is very low budget.
I think that's what struck me about seeing it this time, being able to understand what that poor kid was going through. on the plus side, Meryl Streep was hot back then
Galaxy Quest. Watched it for the first time tonight. Much better than I expected. A nice satire of the Star Wars / StarTrek superfan stuff.
I LUV Galaxy Quest. Sigourney at her best. You might want to try out "Space Balls". The Mel Brooks version of Star Wars/Trek. My fav scene: What's your name? Ass Hole, Sir. What's your name? Ass Hole, Sir. Am I surrounded by ass holes? PS: And of course there is the Robot Chicken version of Star Wars. Priceless.
I've seen SpaceBalls a few times. It ain't no Blazing Saddles or Young Frankenstein. Mel Brookes peaked at about 1976 and was just rehashing jokes since. Robin Hood sucked, Dracula Dead and Loving It was terrible, I'm not even that big a fan of HOTW.
True dat, but the genre deserved its own hommage by Mel. I'm a huge Star Wars/Trek fan, but they do open themselves to parody.
Hannibal. For the first time also. Good but not as good as SOTL. The brain part is disturbing, although the part that bothered me the most was when Moore shot the mother in the FBI raid. I thought she had shot the baby. Strange that with all the gore that got to me the most.
Thought it was good but not great. Didn't have the edge that the first one has, which is in my top 3 favorite movies. Also, some of the graphics or whatever they're called seemed out of place. Made ~ $19MM over the weekend to be # 1. I read somewhere this is the highest grossing opening weekend for an Oliver Stone film and for one with Michael Douglas as a lead. I would have thought JFK would have been bigger; maybe the comparison is a bit off due to ticket prices these days. Blue Horseshoe loves Anacott Steel.
The girls went out of town for the weekend so we boys at an ecessive amount of food and watched three movies on hulu.com: The Professional aka: Leon dir. Luc Besson 1994. This has moved itself to classic status in my mind. I believe this is the movie that made atalie Portman famous! UltraViolet with the eye candy Milla Jovovich and little else going for it. I found it by looking for The Fifth Element as listed in another thread on FChat. Buck Rogers in Planet Outlaws from 1939 at: http://www.hulu.com/planet-outlaws?c=Science-Fiction What has changed since that movie was made in how we think is an interesting discussion. -sc
Saw The Town really actually pretty good. Probably going to try and see Wall Street before I go out of town this weekend.
The Town 8/10 would have scored higher but really botched the very end. Overall solid movie. Resident Evil: 4 3/10 I didnt think it could get any worse after the last one. I was wrong. This one was borderline unwatchable.
Obsessed : Beyonce really is a terrible actress. Unthinkable with Samuel Jackson : Some lines were stupid but overall interesting plot and ending. The Stepfather : Surprisingly good for a serial killer type of movie. John Q : Denzel Washington is one of my favorite actors. The story is very sad and he really does a great job portraying the graveness of the situation.
I dont want to spoil anything for people reading this thread so no details but it appears you know what I am referring to. It was so cheesy it was botched to me. Just a terrible ending. I hate cheesy crap like that in otherwise great movies.
Great movie! I had to add it to my collection - Britt Ekland will remind you just how good 1970's hippie-style nudity can be on film ;^) Edward Woodward and Christopher Lee both turn-in great performances, and the setting in the West Highland Island's off of Scotland, gives the movie a unique look and feel. I've seen one other movie that I believe was set in the Scottish Isles - and it also had that eerie, creepy feel- "Island of Terror" 1966 Peter Cushing- An isolated remote island community is threatened by an attack of Silicates which liquefy and digest bone and tissue. (Anyone remember that one from Saturday afternoon Creature Feature?) LOL Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I saw "Dinner for Schmucks" on Saturday at the $1 movie. I laughed my butt off. I wasn't expecting much, but was very pleasantly surprised. The scene where Barry gets hit by the car, jumps up, and immediately says "Is that a Porsche?" is priceless. A tribute to car guys everywhere.
