I had a '97 993 and I miss that car. It was honest and fun. Put PSS9's on it and OMG what a hoot to drive. Why did I sell it? Back then, I could afford only one sportscar. Times have changed.

Any ideas where to find a nice one? What should I look for? How much should I pay?

I know about the CEL issue, by the way...

Glad you've seen the error of your ways and best version of the 911 ever IMO. I have a 993 turbo and God willing, will never get rid of it. I may even request to be buried in it.

The consensus is that there are several 993 players around the country that specialize in low mileage, mostly stock 993s. Willhoit Enterprises in Springfield, MO, Truspeed Motorsports in CA (Newport??), RPM Sportscars in Houston. I bought my turbo from Willhoit and can highly recommend him. I've also heard good things about RPM but have never dealt with them personally.

Get a PPI - a good one will tell you all the things to look for.

What you pay will be highly dependent on if you want a low mileage garage queen or something that you'll use as a dd.

    Good luck!

One of the best guys in the area, and a fellow F-chat member, is Dave Smith at www.smithmotorworks.com He just down the road in Panama City Beach, but travels all over the Southeast.

Holt Motorsports always has a few around.....talk to Augustine Staino over there.....he's an F-Chatter........if he's not in, talk to Tim Sr. the owner....a great guy as well.

Bought cars from Ray (the owner) at RPM Sportscars in Houston as well........no complaints there either.

I have been looking for one my self.

What model are you looking for? cab coupe, s, turbo?

As I am in the market for one, would you mind telling me about the CEL issue? What's the deal with it?

I'd love a TT, but not willing to keep it up. I had a C4 cabrio, but a C4 is not as fun as a C2. So I've set my sights on a C2 coupe.

Here's some about the famous CEL issue:

Porsche club of America- if you were/are still a member- if not, ask someone who is a member to check the classifieds for you. Check rennlist.com- the ferrari chat of porsches- for both leads and discussions.

993 is last of what is now a dead breed- new porsches perform well, but no 911 built after 1998 is the same- too sterile/plastic/mass-produced/nice but not special personality...you get the drift ;)

Know where you are coming from. I went backwards to a 993RS after my 997GT3RS and the 993 is more fun in every way. Good luck on your search

If I had to pick between 993 or 964 turbo or RS, I would pick 964 due to less weight, driving experience, classic looks not to mentioned Carbon build-up" is unheard of over on the 964 (92+), or oil leaks on O2 sensors triggering check signs unless its 95 OBD1. :)

On side note 964 Turbo is faster than all-wheel drive 993 at nurburgring at least in the hands of this drive.

    Porsche 993 Turbo 3.6 factory kit 151mph 8:12 1997 430hp

    Porsche 964 Turbo 3.3 (320hp) 152mph 1991 320hp /1470 8:08.71 Best motoring

    Porsche 996 Carrera 4 8:38.4
    Porsche 993 Carrera 8:28 272hp
    Porsche 993 Carrera 2 (285 PS) 8:28.0
    Porsche 993 Carrera Cabrio 8:28 286hp

    Porsche 964 Carrera RS 8:28 260hp

page 97 of the 993 owners manual. I'm sure the same language is in your 3.2 manual:

    Engine Oil Consumption

If the vehicle is used for repeated short trips, and consumes a normal amount of oil, the dipstick may not show any drop in the oil level at all, even after 600 miles or more. This is because the oil is gradually becoming diluted with fuel or moisture, making it appear that the oil level has not changed. The diluting ingredients evaporate out when the vehicle is driven at high speeds, making it appear that oil is excessively consumed after driving at high speeds.

The major thing I like about older Porsches - is they where made to be driven, not grannied or garaged. A thirty minute drive is short for me, and the cars are pretty much always ready. I take care of it, it takes care of me.

Yes, true about the C4. C2 is much better. I am looking for a C2 Cab myself. Silver/Black, what's your preferred color combo?

And thanks for the info on the CEL, certainly a good thing to be educated about.

Noticed that there is no mention of 964 Turbo 3.6 ??? What is your opinion of this model ? I used to own one myself several years ago, which has been traded in for a 1994 964 Turbo 3.6 S Exclusive Flatnose. Thanx in advance for your opinion. w/ smiles Jimmy

Value has gone up I have seen a few in the $80k. I think this is fabulous car and world record for Porsche modified Quarter mile run ahead of 08 turbo, 236.7MPH.

Am I correct in assuming it is a Japan only model? If I had a choice of owning a 964 Turbo it will be the 3.3 Turbo S. It is so cool. RS on steroids!

Indeed, you are correct. It is the Version IX83-Japan Model and is detailed in www.flachbau.com/ . As for your choice, I am in agreement there too. w/ smiles Jimmy

I very much doubt that a 964 Turbo 3.3 will beat a 993 GT2 or 993 Turbo around the 'Ring. I bet the Best Motoring laptime was for a "bridge-to-gantry" lap. Only industry pool sessions and after hours test sessions use the full track length. Add the 20 second difference back and the 964 Turbo laptime makes sense.

If it is the same Victory Motorcar as the one mentioned in Rennlist, I would be very cautious. Have a search on Rennlist.
