Lovely piece that I read and felt like sharing with you all

Prayer is not a "spare wheel" that you pull out when in trouble,
but it is a "steering wheel" that directs the right path throughout.

Do you know why a Car's WINDSHIELD is so large & the Rearview Mirror is so small? Because our PAST is not as important as our
FUTURE. Look Ahead and Move on.

Friendship is like a BOOK. It takes few seconds to burn, but it
    takes years to write.

All things in life are temporary. If going well, enjoy it, they
will not last forever. If going wrong, don't worry, they can't last
    long either.

Old Friends are Gold! New Friends are Diamond! If you get a
Diamond, don't forget the Gold! Because to hold a Diamond, you
always need a Base of Gold!

Often when we lose hope and think this is the end, GOD smiles from
above and says, "Relax, sweetheart, it's just a bend, not the end!

    When GOD solves your problems, you have faith in HIS abilities;
when GOD doesn't solve your problems HE has faith in your abilities.

When you pray for others, God listens to you and blesses them,
and sometimes, when you are safe and happy, remember that someone
    has prayed for you.

WORRYING does not take away tomorrows' TROUBLES, it takes away
    todays' PEACE.

that is never an issue here ... the forum is populated with enthusiasts ... whether u own one or even what u own is somewhat irrelevant.

& i'm sure some of the lads here with experience in r8/gt will advise u accordingly.

Jon, seems like you are cumming out of the closet to be an open top voyeur :D

I like the Bentley but would have preferred to see you in the older XJS with cat eyes and half moon tails...those are damn steam! Can upp to 1000hp somemore.

haha, I can relate to your experience on the rain part except that my soft top back then was manual & I have no shelter :( luckily there was no lady passenger :D

Speaking of which I've never driven a convertible with the top down over 150, how's the wind noise & do we need a deflector?

Yeah, a little silly but when this Jag turned up, I just have to "adopt" it. Makes a good companion for an E type & it's not too much money anyway.

Dude, I've always been an open guy ;)

I like the XJS but have always missed having one since the day I had my license. The XK was of course the nicer (curvy lines) but expensive one & a roadster is most desirable but as it ages, it becomes affordable. Unfortunately, there's no manual g-box so I can't mod it.

    @ 26, driving a 7 & GS450 is very impressive! You're on the way to supercardom!

I've owned neither but various others & since I can't afford new cars, half of my cars are over ten years old. (Some of them are more reliable than modern ones!)

I'm not worried on cars made post 2000 except of course lemons. Most upper-end sport cars costs about S$2K to service @ agents & lesser with "specialist" workshops. That's for your general oil change/filter stuff which most modern cars need anyway. Staying with agents means warranty if any, history for re-sale & factory update campaigns.

My ex lambos (Audi) were very reliable & cheap to maintain. Oil service is one year or 10K km & less than S$1k per job. You spend more $ trying to mod it.

However, clutch jobs on almost all F1 style trans run into 7K easily whether BMW, Lambo, F & M etc. & lasts anything from <1000Km to 20K+ depending on how you use it. Not sure about GTI.

Cabin quality should be pretty good for those two brands for post 2005 as well. Remember to look into tyres for used cars & the transfer fee.

    Good luck!

That is right. We wouldn't like to hear on repair costs so some owners buy add-on warranty.

#1 parts might not be in stock = down time for weeks & months. Dealer usually do a 30-100% mark-up on parts over internet prices because they have to stock it & maintaining the expensive workshop. Owners usually get discounts on parts though.

#2 labour to do is usually S$100/hr

To me down time is worse than an expensive bill because a non running car is as bad as taking public!

i guess so long as he's not looking at tyres like the pzero corsas, the budget should be able to handle it ... them tyres cost a freaking arm & leg to replace ...

On the 355 with windows up, it is very calm and peaceful till 150-180. Above that till 250, all hell breaks loose and anything not secured (esp the touch and go card!) WILL fly. Lucky all that I have lost were petrol receipts. And forget about hearing the comm set, even with headset. You will not hear anything with that engine + wind noise. Did 250 one morning with Tim and some boys just as the sun was breaking. Niverna!

As for deflector, the tonneau cover sits quite high, somewhat like the 911 speedster hump, so I guess that deflects the wind somewhat. But you do get warm air from the engine bay at certain speeds, just around the neck area.

If you doing early morning top down runs, don't forget to clamp your mouth! Looking at the amount of bugs splattered on the car, I didn't dare to swallow after that run :D.

BTW, the XK looks fab. Keep it, easier and cheaper to live with than the E-type but just as good looking. The later version not so nice, esp the front treatment.
