I'm a relatively recent Ferrari owner, just about 4 months now. But one thing has surprised and irritated me. Yes I expected people to drive up beside, slow down and take a look, and that's kind of cool. I usually give them a wave or a thumbs up. But why in the hell do people slow down IN FRONT of me on a two lane road? I can be driving my Subaru and can't keep up with the minivan mom tear-assing down the road. But if I'm in the 308 behind that same minivan, she slows down to 25mph and won't get out of the way. This happens almost every time I get in the car, and I never see it driving the Subaru. Unbelievably annoying.

Maybe they want you to overtake them to have a better look. That's the only positive reason I can think of.

They were probably wanting to see your car a little closer and hoping that if they drove slow enough you would pass them and they could get a better look. Maybe.

Could be a vigilante mentality too. Like it's their responsibility to slow you down to save you and others from yourself under the assumption that you must be driving recklessly given the car you are driving.

I had a 308 behind me a couple of months back and it looked like he wanted to be going faster than I was able to, so I slowed down a bit when there was a gap in oncoming traffic to make myself easier to overtake - and hit the button to wind down my windows. The sound he made as he blew past was awesome! :D

    All the best,
    Andrew.

They are too busy looking in the mirror so that's why they have to slow down.
It's really funny how sometimes you can tell the moment they spot you in the mirror (which can take sometimes take a bloody long time) because suddenly they start weaving all over the place...and slow down.

Also difficult to anticipate what other drivers are doing.
Car passes me and I am ready go get behind it to overtake the car in front and suddenly they slow down.

I love when people brake going uphill, forcing you to scream along behing them in 1st or second gear.

It is the opposite in my neighborhood. I saw a f430 going ten under on the hwy limit this morning, and then really slow down Scottsdale road.

Just about everytime I see a Ferrari around these parts they are going well below the limit. (Not so much an issue with the Lambos)

I can understand trailing back from vehicles ahead to avoid rock chips and debris, but I don't know if it is Will Smith in Summertime thing or something else.

It really isn't a police issue, nor an attention dodging issue either, exotics are plentiful here.

I think it's a combination of vigilante and mirror gawking, but it sure does piss me off. Especially when I've had a long day at work and just want to go for a drive on a cool evening and reset myself, only to get stuck behind someone who intentionally slowed down when I got behind them. And this is usually on roads where passing isn't allowed, making it even worse. The roads around my house are great for a little decompression driving, not even speeding, just enjoying the wind and sound. But this tends to ruin things.

I think I'll go for a drive tonight and try again.

That must be the reason for the one I got last weekend.

I came up behind a generic econo-box on a two lane road - one of the only ones around here that actually has a couple of rolling hills and a bend or two. In the 55 mph zone this guy slowed to 35. When there was finally a bit of open road with no oncoming traffic, I started to pull out to pass.... And so did he. The son of a@#$%$$# drove 30 mph right down the center line blocking me. He only pulled back in when there was oncoming traffic.

Where are the cops when you need them?

call 911 from your cell, report an erratic driver probably drunk, you'll have the plate, real easy to read at 30mph. Those details might even qualify as a sort of detaining you against your will.

Most of these muppets are wierdos and cowards anyway, when they try that with me, I just take em anyway and squeeze past, thats what insurance is for, most of them get scared and get outta the way. Happens in the UK a lot as there are too many civilian-police types who are too jealous it hurts them to think someone has a Ferrari, let alone see someone driving one

    Easy solution:

Move to LA. No one will give you even a first glance.

Sometimes it's better just to pull over for a min or two just to let slow drivers go until it's clear then start driving again.

That is often my solution. Either that, or I just take the next turn off. I have actually found a few nice driving roads that way - kind of a silver lining.

Sooner or later, you (the Ferrari owner/driver) are going to have to come to grips wiht the facts: A) other people love Ferraris, B) you can't get all that worked up about it when they do, or C) if you continue to stay worked up about it, you will end up having to sell the car.

Likely because they are looking at your car through their rear view mirror, and they naturally slow down without realizing it.

Moving is definitely on our priority list, and I need to find somewhere with easy access to mountains, great roads, tracks, beaches, mild weather, ZERO mosquitos, and no minivans to get in my way. LA (+) canyon roads, weather, (-) just about everything else. FL (+) beaches, (-) well not as bad as LA. :)

Maybe Montana/Idaho in summer, San Diego/South FL in winter. That might do the trick.

I kinda have the opposite problem. I have owned my 308 for a little over a year now. Every time I take it out it seems that everyone in their 1978 Toyota Hi Lux pick-up truck wants to race. Its like it is common knowledge that 308's aren't speed demons. I don't think this happens with 355's. I never give them the satisfaction. I don't pass them, I just keep driving normally. I can picture them going home to the basement under their parents house, picking up their cat off of one of their "How to build a pipe bomb" books and saying, "Guess what Mr. Jingles, daddy raced a ferrari in our '84 Geo Metro today and won."

(Although sadly, with a '79 308 that just might be a tight race.)

I love when people want a race, or show interest in the car, because that's what Ferrari is about. Unfortu lately in the uk there are more jealous idiots than nice people, and sometimes I feel like one big target for mental manoeuvres

I pull away very slowly when people try to race me and don't even look their way.
