Drive of the race goes to Fernando in my book. He was ice cold even though the chassis that God himself created (LOL) was chasing him down the entire time. Nothing Vettel threw at him, or could've thrown at him outside of taking him out, was going to phase him out of this win. He knows exactly what he needs to do to win and he knows exactly how to do it. Red Bull may have the dominant car but Ferrari has a driver who has been in the title chase, and won it, two times now. He knows what the pressure is like. That's not a bad ace to have up your sleeve. Here's to hoping this momentum keeps up! BTW, I loved watching Kubica haul ass. The guy is pretty much invisible each race so it's hard to explain to my fiancee (who watches the races with me) why I like the guy so much. After this race she finally got to see why!
Just finished watching it from DVR. Nice to know there's -still- some action in F1 Whoever said nuthin' happens in F1 shoulda been watching this one. Beats the hell out of Bubba Racing around a left turn oval...
I believe I mentioned in another post that Hamilton will self destruct. Looks like I was close. Too bad, I am beginning to like the guy.
+1 on Kubica, that 2nd stop was puzzling, but seeing what he did on fresh tires/tyres was amazing. One very skilled driver. He has a great future in F1.
I've liked him for a while but I don't trust or respect him yet. I will say that he hasn't adopted the same degree of on track arrogance of a Senna or a Schumi yet.
Anyone else notice that timing and scoring lost the script when everyone dove in on lap 3? I spotted four or five cars in the pits (with the DVR) that didn't get listed on the web site pit summary. (According to the pit summary, Hulkenburg never stopped at all.) Kubby looked pretty impressive, but he was blowing past people who'd been stretching their tires since lap 3 (or lap 1). Once he came up on Rubens, the charge ended. As to the Webber/Hamilton shemozzle, compare Kubi passing Sutil at the same spot. When you go around a car, you have to go *around* it, not through it. (I didn't see any suspension damage to the McLunk -- nor did the tire look down. Did the bash over the kerb take out the gearbox?) Think maybe Red Bull is praying that Korea doesn't make the cut? (Australian work crews walk out on strike -- flim at 11. )
Hamilton's tire immediately went down I think. That's why everyone flew past him right after it happened. That's all it looked like to me so I'm not sure why he quit. The suspension still looked together so I'm wondering if he thought it was more broke than it was and quit as a result maybe?
Congrats to Alonso on a fantastic race Massa is a total embarrassment to Ferrari. He will p*** away any chance they have of winning the championship. Hopefully Ferrari will sign a competent driver along side Alonso for next season. Massa can go back to Brazil and play with toycars for all I care.
24th to 10th isn't exactly pissing away a chance. It wasn't his fault the car quit working in Q1 after all.
Didn't see all of the race, was tuning in every 15 minutes orso... Great drive by Alonso, although I'm quite confident that if this track had space to overtake properly (for cars with stupid aerodynamics), Vettel would have been far ahead of him as it looked to me that Alonso was pushing much harder than vettel... No idea what happened to Hamilton, first he loses 2.5 seconds a lap to his direct competition, then he leaves no braking room for Webber, a guy notoriously hard to pass. It was never going to work. Maybe if it was Massa it would have worked... Kubica, once again a dark horse this race, I want him in a red car soon. Him or Vettel. Don't show Moretti!!! Didn't his engine go during qualifying? Still ended up in 10th on a track where overtaking is very very difficult... Glad it's not all bias over here mate
+1 On that. Plus, in the race he was hampered by the fact that the harder tyres didn't work as well as expected (not just for Massa but for everyone at the time), and the second safety car did him any favours at all, especially when everyone ahead of him was fannying about when it came to getting past Glock. His head may fallen slightly during the race (as he is prone to), but luck was most definitely not on his side this weekend.
I am happy with the results overall. I thought FA did a good job on qualifying and the race. I also thought Massa did a good job. Things are getting interesting.
Yeah it did. That's no excuse for yet again being stuck behind much slower cars. He just can't overtake unless someone else do the job for him (crash, SC or pitting)
You're not going to find many moments when I defend him, but for him that was a great drive. Notice that I say for him. I would expect more from Alonso, Hamilton, Webber, etc., but for Massa that was a great drive that ended in a points position. He overtook plenty of people. After all you just don't magically teleport to tenth position in the field.
Probably the best race of the year. I enjoyed every minute. Massa's strategy -- many of you called the first lap stop and he did as well as can be expected. Alonso won in the first corner BUT the pressure was on the entire race. Vettel did not let him get away. Considering how many back markers they had to deal with, they both drove one heck of a race. Hamilton: Probably made a mistake in cutting the corner a little short on Webber. Still, you can't blame a guy for being aggressive either. I'm happy that the stewards called it a racing accident. I'm so tired of the political blame card being thrown down at every incident. Let them RACE! I think Hamilton's chances of winning the WDC is over now. Too bad as I really thought he would end up the victor. Schumacher: Probably one of the silliest moves I've ever seen him make. Kubica: Sorry but I want to see this guy in a red car someday soon. He is always terrific. Lotus fire: I'm screaming at the TV: get the heck out of there! Great move by the driver -- a lot of balls shown. Terrific race for Ferrari given the circumstances. Now, let's win the Driver's Championship!
Remember what Flavio said last week, when nobody knew what would happen in this race: "The fight for the 2010 WDC is between Alonso and Weber".
No, but I remember what Kimi said about Hamilton--"Only an idiot can crash into you while driving with 80 km/h and staring at the red light at the pit exit for about 100 meters or so" Couple of years later--Hamilton hasn't changed much...
