I read it twice trying to decide what the hell he was doing as well. I guess he really wants to argue with someone

Scud09 just shut everyone up and post pics of yourself with your 290k scud. I want to see what it looks like. I also told you it's easy to join the Owners Forum here. Join it and make all the non-believers believe!

+1, he is talking to himself? I could not believe it at first, but enjoyed it nonetheless.

Beautiful. Enjoy it. Forget about the value. Worrying about it isn't going to change it.

If you care that it'll be worth $120K in 3 years, sell it now...

Why are people getting all butt-hurt? the Scud is a fantastic car....but its just a car, not even limited production by Ferrari standards at that....they will depreciate for some time, especially with newer, faster cars (458)

What did people expect their scuds to appreciate? lol

Unfortunately NO modern Ferrari (last decade) with the exception of the Enzo has held it's value or appreciated. Every SuperAmerica, Barchetta and Stradale - claimed to be "special" and "collectible" - have all fallen short of expectations in terms of maintaining value. The Scuderia and 458 (eventually) will fair no differently.

There is no way for you to protect the value of your car when economic conditions dictate the market. For a dealer to be able to sell a Scuderia at an asking price of $199k means they probably took it in on trade for $180k or less. I agree that the smart sellers should seriously consider any legitimate offer around $200k for their cars or they'll be facing a long winter (and a further depreciating asset).

anyone that buys these cars hoping they retain value needs their head examined anyway. not as much examination as someone that feels their scud is still close to msrp but still an examination is required.

you are buying a depreciating asset and that is all. pull the trigger on a 60's example and you will have some staying power. pull the trigger on a new one to have some fun. these vehicles are no different than going to disneyland. you can't help leaving there without a smile but you never leave there with more money than you arrived.

buy em. drive em and have fun. if y ou are hoping for something else you are as crazy as scud 09's theory on the value of his car

Here's a REAL eye opener for all of you selling your Scuds or hanging onto the belief that the market has bottomed:

    http://www.lfsc.com/2008-ferrari-430-scuderia--c-232.htm

I just called on the car and they sold it on Saturday for $199k. A 1600 mile red Scud for $199k from one of the most respected Ferrari dealers around. I know first hand that these guys are straight shooters since I've purchased cars from them before. No stories on this car. Simply a nice deal at a very fair price! Everyone with a $235k to $250k asking price on their Scuds might want to reassess their situations when dealers are coming in at this level.

Wow! Many dealers are still sticking to the 230-250K range. BTW that's a great looking Scud.

    :) LOL

I have talked with a dealer in CA about an 09 1k mile Scud, 308k MSRP. Told him my range was 190-200. He said he would be calling me in 2011. Guessing that will be sooner rather than later in 2011. Market is full of great examples.

He might have gone over already! After seeing this he probably took a running start and never even paused. I think he originally said clean low mileage examples were worth high $2s. We're now at high $1s.

The good thing is that one dealer is being realistic and understands what it takes to sell cars. They have/had two Scuds under $200k. The rest of the sellers are going to own their cars through the winter if they don't respond accordingly.

There is an 08' w/ 10K miles on it for $189K. If a guy were to buy this car for lets say $175K and drove it another 10K in 3 or 4 years would it be worth less then $100K? If so that would be a big hit. Does this sound right?

Highly doubtful that a 20k mile Scud in three or four years would be worth less than $100k. Using the Stradale as an example average prices are probably $130ish now based on a $190ish MSRP. That's approximately a third off it's original value in six years. Scuds were about $270-$280 new so if you use a similar formula you'd get $170s on average by the year 2014. But times are different so we're likely to close in on that number much sooner than later.

A 20k mile car in three to four years could be $130s/$140s but I think values on decent Scuds will hold thereabouts or a bit higher. As is the case with most Ferraris there is resistance at a certain level where demand catches up with supply and they will stop falling.

As always no one has a crystal ball and only time will tell. Who would have thought you'd be able to buy a 1600 mile red Scud for under $200k so soon? But your example as well as the one that Lake Forest just sold (plus the gray one they still have) shows where the market is headed.

Yes but the CS was much more limited production. It will hold its value much better IMO than the scud. IMO scuds will be around $120k or so when they hit bottom in 3-4 years. How can a car be that amazing and under $100k!

Thanks for the feedback. My biggest concern would be the miles on the car (when it comes time to sale). It seems that cars that actually have 20/30K on them are much harder to sale.

If you take my example of the care with 10K for $189 - Not real sure where it will sale, but I would have to think that it's going to be 10-15K less then the one that just sold under $200K with 1,800 miles on it.

I'm not in the market just yet. Looking at early next year (unless I can find something smarter to do with my money:) and hope to find a car that I can drive and enjoy realizing that it's going to "cost" around $2,000 a month to drive and enjoy.
