I guess Michael coming back from retirement is really working. No matter how good or bad he is doing, he is obviously the most talked about driver. Look at our own F1 section, how many threads are there about Schummy vs. every other driver?

Well, there's GOOD talking about and BAD talking about...

He's a legend. He should have stayed that way.

I especially hope MS will blow all his critics away next season. I surely hope these kinda articles will give him more fire!

Uh Oh, keep talking like that and this thread is going to get ugly really fast.

***Rides and hides from the bus load of Schumi supporters coming this way***

This article at least details some of his technique before, and now after, returning to F1. Its not just a biased emotional schumi should leave article. He is a free man and will drive if he wants to but no matter, his best days have gone past.

That has been the consistent theme given his results to date. Next year he could prove us all wrong. Age and mental faculty are working against him. Clearly.

Gossips don't win world championships; they are decided on the track!!

You can give as much column inches to Schumi as you want, that won't help him racing.

It's also far better to be talked about for success than for failure.

Schumacher is now an idol of the past; he knows it and everybody knows it.

The only question left here is when will he retire?

As I said before, I don't really care anymore since he is now just another midfield driver in a midfield team. Whether he drives for MB one more race or the next ten years won't have an effect on anything I care about.

Just before Monaco, he asked for the long car. He hasn't felt comfortable. He enjoys driving, but is designing a winning car with Mercedes and feels it will be ready next season. Openly, Michael is not concentrating on the 2010 season. With Mercedes, he is currently designing his own 2011 F1 car as we speak. Mercedes is with him 100% and the car is already in design production.

Hello! It is almost October. Of course it is in an advanced state. As is every other car from any other team. They start with the new car design about in July.

Problem is: IIRC some elements of the 2011 rules are still not finalized, testing remains highly limited and Mercedes IMHO a team, that will never build a WDC winning car, irrespective of who drives it.

Since when Schumacher has the capability of 'designing' a car?

He may have good basic technical knowledge, some hability in analysing car comportment, terrific set-up know-how, and even give some input in the concept, but I doubt very much that he can 'design' a car or lead a team of designers like Ross Brawn, Adrian Newey, Mike Gascoyne, Patrick Head and others...

This current phenomenon (or lack thereof) just reinforces what I've been saying from day one: It's not the driver - it's the car! Why is Webber *all of a sudden* leading the WC? Why is Schumi *all of a sudden* at the back of the grid? All you have to do is compare the lap times of each driver with his teammate [driving the same car].

ALL the drivers in F1 are good - or they wouldn't be there.

As much as it pains me, I'm starting to, reluctantly, concur :(

I'm even beginning to wonder if Isobel might let me renege on next seasons bet.....

But, I'm not ready to throw in the towel - Let's hope he like's the Pirelli's - As much as the car is important, we know (from previous tire wars) how important those are.....

Any doc's around? - Does one's "inner ear" age in the way implied?

    Cheers,
    Ian

Nothing other than wine gets better with years ;)

There seems to be an assumption that Ross will pull a rabbit out of his hat and come up with a world beating car for Michael to drive off into the sunset. No guarantee (or even likelihood) that's going to happen.
Forget all that. Someone just tell me when Michael has shown any of his old flair and determination (other than trying to put Rubens in the wall). He just hasn't had the spark. No change in his ride will bring that back.

I think Schumacher may be just taking it easy because the car is no good.

Hughes notes that he is struggling with the car... unlike he did back in the Ferrari days... I think if they design him a car for next year he would do better... I hope!

Otherwise the media is going to slice & dice him every step of the way.

The Schumi who won races and championships never took it easy.

Schu would be an utter baboon to leave at the end of this season. If he still can't get it straight by mid next season he will leave. He remains the most popular driver on the grid so he can write his own ticket. Must be nice
