I obviously take your point. Many of my comments are tongue in cheek but perhaps don't translate well. My point was principally that the nature of this point wasnt being communicated in a way that gives this thread credit.
We now have a 'measured view' and perhaps that will settle it for good!

Good memory Joe.

A number of years ago (before I was in the business) I sold my 86' DD to my friend John, a few months later I bought my first 79' S1.

We then spent about 2 hours on the phone going over the cars.

We took all the measurements and proved there was a difference.

That information was brought to this forum purely for information purposes not to make anyone feel less about their car.

There are 4 Countach in my shop right now:

2 early "lowbody" both LP400S2 cars

2 later 5000 body cars a LP400S3 and a DD QV.

I have measured more than 20 Countach between my shop and car shows, it was not just a fluke difference between 2 or 3 hand made cars.

 

I must admit, I've never heard to these cars being referred to as low body or high body ever before. Is this peculiar to America? Never heard of it being mentioned in any UK magazine that I can recall, and the Countach featured in a lot of magazines.

 

There is a 2 + inch difference between the doors... and I don't need to brag

Countach gurus: I am new to Countach ownership and have a question and will probably have a lot more.

I have searched high and low and get conflicting answers.

I have a 1984 5000s. It has sidedraught Webers on it. Are these 40 or 45?.

If factory original they should be 45.

You are correct, these terms have only been used by a few people on here that choose to disect particular models. I also have never heard of this before, and nor do I recall Lamborghini ever referencing such cars as a series 1, 2, or 3.

Because I'm surprised...... but not so that there is a difference, it is surprising by how much. Those are big differences.

 

Now I'm wondering about other measurements...

Floor to headliner

Interior sill height from floor and distance from headliner

Center Tunnel height from floor and distance to headliner

Has the dash moved in relation to floor and headliner

 

I'm more curious, what is the top of the body to the bottom of the body (not counting the suspension), that's the number that will show how big (or small) the difference is.

 

Chad also mentioned that the periscope channel was removed to improve headroom. It's in the middle of the car above the console (not likely to hit your head there).

 

Jeez, 45 post today and still going. Is that a one day record?

On a 24 year old car anything is possible though. In the "big picture" not that much difference between them.

 

Peter. This s all intriguing. when you get your ar back let do a measurement gathering side by side, ok? It definitely suck that you have 2" I don't have on my doors.

For those who are finding out for the first time it can be surprising.

I noticed the differences and made the measurements years ago.

To others,

The Factory made changes along the way, fun things for us to discover now.

The 3 series of LP400S were decided by club members to distinguish them

The "Lowbody" term is an affectionate slang made up by club members.

 

Bryan, NSXER, I am so sorry! It appears that I have misrepresented 1121252 to you as one of those mythical LP400S2 "low" bodies. I know because some guy named Chad told me on the internet.

Anyway, please prepare the car for me and I shall collect it from you right away. Of course you are entitled to a full refund and 15% inconvenience fee.

they are different

and without a single doubt the low body cars looks better, the hi body cars i can actually fit in

This morning I measured between a LP400 S2, S3 & 5000QV all here in my shop.

The measurement was taken from the top of the ashtray to the bottom of the roof frame as well as from the center console behind the ashtray to the roof just behind the frame. The difference… right at 2” taller on the S3 & QV compared to the S2.
