prices are set by what the market can bear.
newer cars unfortunately have a difficult time though since they cannot be arbed around the world with little impunity.
the demand for all sorts of goods and certainly luxury goods, is far greater in asia at the moment than in the usa. but can you take that scud at 180k and ship it to beijing for 2k and sell it at a profit? no coz there is import tax and homologation etc etc.

can you take a 150k scud out of dubai and sell it to the usa at 180k? no, coz you have to have different specs for dot and epa (which is really bs in this case anyway).

so the market in the usa for scuds is going to be tough. they supplied roughly half the run there, so lets say nearly 2000 cars. the market is thus well supplied, and in the worst financial shape since the 1930's with even greater customer wariness. no where to go but down. the monstrous numbers of the 458 that will be produced will ensure that.

First correct thing you've said. There sure won't be any Scuds for sale for $199K in three years.... they'll all be around 150K by then.

You don't know that, as "09 scud" may have his for sale at that time...

And then what about CS prices? No doubt they'll keep falling, but to me they seem to have really stalled in the past year or so. It seems like there's serious pressure on CS values with falling 430 and scud values.

CS prices have firmed up quite a bit and will probably depreciate at a much lower rate compared to Scuds.

I'll bet you see 08 Scuds for $150 this time next year at retail, and a few hit $165 or so wholesale this winter....

No dreaming here. Don't want one. You're the one in fantasy world.

Nothing wrong with that. Your car is stunning. I just hope you can afford to lose $150K on it. As more 458's come available... Scud values will fall further.

this possibly will happen but the 458's aren't rolling in like one would think so it will stall a faster depreciation.

This btw will also drive the price of your 360 into the 50-65k range. Where will the 355's go? Unsellable? Most likely with $10k services and the NEW Ferrari owner not willing to pay the costs

CS's have stalled for a year now it seems as have th 430's. It appears the lower demand of 458's and Ferrari's lower output might have helped the decline of their marque brand name.

I don't think monstrous numbers are coming in. Our local dealer can barely find customers. This lower demand and lack of business will help hold values for owners that care.

the one,s that are losing 150k are the ones that are crazy enough to trade in there scud. for a mass production 458 but they don,t know any better, like my dealer says NOW is the worse time to sell or trade your scud without taken a big hit, just wait till the market settle down it sound good to me.

LMAO...Your dealer didn't tell you to wait for the market to settle. Your dealer told you he could have a 458 spec'd for you this month. Then he told you what he'd give you trade. NO Ferrari dealer said "it's the wrong time to buy a new one" NONE!

    I call bull$hit

you may not yet have seen that many 458's but i know for sure that the plan at maranello is to make this car for a while. they need to hit 15,000 to make some money.

could be. simply because the numbers are lower, it was the first, and it sounds like thunder and its legal. but none of us should be under any illusions. unless we get some kind of killer inflation (different debate), all the other later cars will weigh on the mkt. 430's will go lower than cs's. but scuds may only equal cs's and bring both down a bit. the really bad depreciation as somebody else said will be on regular 360's and everything below it.

love to see their books. rumor running around when Lambo was making the LP560 Murci's it cost them under $90k per copy with a sticker of well north of $300k.

my bet is the 458 cost's Maranello somewhere around $80-$90k to produce end user paying in the mid $250's to above $300k as well. Dealer take of $50k a copy most likely still leaves them $100k plus per copy produced. Ferrari won't have 1.5 Billion in R and D so I'll assume it's sucked up in F1 racing.

someone crack open those books for us.

what is with you? why so steadfast with your idea that "a scud won't depreciate very much, but rather stupid people are trading them in for 458's"...turning everything into the F-chat version of waving fingers in each others faces? seriously...
