I've been watching The Office, started from the beginning.
I never forgot you : A documentary about Simon Wiesenthal. Amazing what this man did. Sobering and inspiring. I wish he was still around.
I watched a satire/mockumentary made a few years ago called Confederate States of America. It is on youtube. A independent film made with a modest budget. Basically the premise was an alternate universe where during the Civil War the Confederacy was able to secure some significant early victories and gained the help of the British and French, and won the war. The movie is set in present day as the South took over Washington DC and what we know as the US is governed by rules of mid-19th century Virginia or Mississippi. Obviously slavery is a key plot point throughout. One "commercial" is for a show like C.O.P.S. but instead catches runaway slaves. It is definitely an adult movie, kids or even teens might not understand the subtlety of some of the commentary the director is trying to convey. In some places it is almost funny in a very dark sense, but then you realize that generations of people really did live this way. Some of the fictional events of the "confederate empire" that had been built since 1865 eerily parallel the actual reality of US manifest destiny. Very thought-provoking.
I watched Get Him To The Greek last night. Funny, but not Hangover funny IMO. It was worth watching though.
I have seasons 1-6 on my computer. If you're ever in a bad mood, just watch an episode, any episode. A perfect show.
"Boxing Helena" ... OMG what a twisted movie!!!! Anyone else see this? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106471/ Jedi
Fantastic movie... you twisted man The Misfits have a song about it... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1YnsnwhPQnw
Scratch that: FROM NETFLIX: Streaming details Available 10/1/2010 I had it in my queue but it has a very long wait, instead I got Entourage coming in.
Who Killed The Electric Car? I'd never seen this film before until last night. Kinda funny seeing Mel Gibson give his input, one crazy mofo indeed.
Silverado, last weekend. Nonstop action Western shooter with somewhat predictable plot. I remember that this movie was very popular when released in '85, and played an important part in the revival of the Western genre. Before the Devil Knows You're Dead, last night. Tarantino-esqe crime drama with awesome cast and story. A must-see. Netflix streaming is great!
The other guys: Funny, but from the trailers I expected 'the rock' and Samuel L. Jackson to be in it for much, much longer...was a big downer imo. Grown ups: Measuring stick for badness. Terrible acting from pretty much anything with the exception of steve buscemi (one of my favourite actors), the fat guy and the stoner.
Casino Jack and the United States of Money Documentary in the Michael Moore style, but less funny and a bit tedious after a while. What is interesting though is that the battle lines of GOP and Dems today are exactly the same as they were 20 or 30 years ago. Nothing ever changes or evolves. Exact same slogans.
finally watched 500 Days of Summer good movie. tried a little too hard to be cool/trendy, but I liked it.
Wall Street 2 I thought it was a good movie. I think all wall street traders will hate it because it shows the sleaziness of their jobs.
sure....or just a realistic feeling most Americans hold towards the Wall Street bankers that ran our country into the ground with the Greed created by only caring about THEIR income. Moral Hazard to the tenth!
isn't that pretty much what the first one did, too? haven't seen the movie but I've heard it's another one of Ollie Stone's kooky liberal agenda movies (I think that's all of his movies). is that correct?
I didn't think that. Although I'm sure Noel is thinking I'm a touch Liberal It's a family story wrapped up tight into a Wall Street theme I believe. Oliver doesn't technically attack the Bankers he highlights what greed can do to certain individuals. Fiction or Fact? I don't think but a few will ever really know.
