near CWB/Gloucester Rd or going up the Peak??
Saw another yellow 458 last night. Two for the day. This one was in Wanchai and the driver was giving it the beans up Jaffe Rd. I have to say the sound was immense. So loud and throaty it actually made me jump. This has got to be one of the best sounding cars on the market! It looked gorgeous in the rain and neon lights of Wanchai.
saw a boxster spyder this morning at TMT...except it was driving past and I thought it was a normal boxster, only realised it was a spyder because of the pic I took of the blue 360 spider following...>_> Aston DBS http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4106/5046453756_1833ff6f7b_b.jpg Some sort of Bentley http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4090/5045832351_d52b04e421_b.jpg M5 http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4124/5045832753_cd5300fabd_b.jpg Blue 360 Spider + Boxster Spyder http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4109/5046455080_10b29bbb1c_b.jpg Yellow 430 (fake scuderia) http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4078/5045833761_c0e2a191d0_b.jpg Porsche Gemballa something http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4126/5046455906_ab0c42fb7d_b.jpg NSX http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4131/5046456434_e59c154477_b.jpg Lotus Esprit http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4083/5045834967_b6a7008741_b.jpg QP http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4153/5045835451_30f6f9ac72_b.jpg ...green brakes?! http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4091/5045835781_86243c4e4a_b.jpg
Nice pics IcyJ! Your Bentley is probably a Turbo R but it could be a rare RT/RL - not sure. NSX is absolutely awesome but I'm wondering if it's an authentic 'R' or it just has the body kit. Went to the Classic Concours Show on Chater Rd today. Any fellow Fchatters there? It was very hot and quite busy so it was difficult to get any really decent shots. Anyway, here are the first bunch. Will upload the rest after work... http://www.flickr.com/photos/48817379@N03/
Hi folks - just back from Thailand and had an interesting chat with my neighbor down there. He's got a lovely 599 (cost ~US$1 mm with the nutty import taxes down there!) but can't drive it anymore...because he can't get regular gasoline apparently! As he explained it, almost all of the gas stations there now sell gasohol or some other blend. He filled up without knowing this issue, and the car choked on it. He managed to get home on "limp home" mode, sent it back up to Bangkok on a flatbed, and the dealer told him about the problem. Supposedly only 4 stations in Bangkok area still have gasoline now, and none in the phuket area. The same problem happened to him a second time (even though the Shell station told him that it was not a gasohol blend). Any comments on whether (a) ethanol blends would cause problems for Ferraris, or only newer ones?, and (b) if any stations here are selling ethanol blends? Ben
I'd recommend against driving a Ferrari in Phuket. I saw a 456 once years ago, but none since. The roads near my house (just north of Phuket in Phang Nga province) are pretty good but once you get into Phuket the roads are sketchy. The main North-South highway is decent (some potholes because of the monsoon season which has passed, and a couple spots with very wavy asphalt) but once you get into the side roads (e.g. to Surin/Kamala area) the roads are very tight and patchy. Not sure where you're planning to stay, but often you have to pass through gravel roads, roads under repair, etc....not good for a Ferrari. My neighbor uses his 599 just for the 15 minute blast from the airport to his house. I wouldn't want to drive a ferrari there, but any German luxobarge or SUV is perfect for Phuket. I always rent a Toyota Fortuner SUV. Whatever you drive, make sure you've got good brakes because there are always idiots driving on the wrong side of the road (lights off, at night) to avoid having to drive an extra km and make a U turn, kids running across high speed roads, cars going 20 kph when everyone else is doing 100, etc. etc.
Thanks for the great info. I've just had a bet to race my Bentley GTC with another Fchatter's Pershing from Singapore to see who'll reach Phuket first on a 200 sterling pound deal but now u are making me think twice.... how about the road condition & security from Malaysia border towards Phuket?
Does your mate have access to racing fuel from companies like ELF or HKS etc? This is the way my customers go about it in indonesia where the fuel is rated at 95 RON at the pump and i recommend they use a higher octane like 98 or higher. I know its expensive per liter but still after paying 1M USD can not being able to use your car is a pain.
This one is yearly. I'm sure some of the other members here would be privvy to info about other such events around HK.
Jon - my neighbor has been considering using octane booster, but if the 599 is choking on the ethanol, I suspect booster wouldn't solve the problem. I think he could probably get racing fuel up in Bangkok, but down in Phuket, it's not likely. The 599 is his "Phuket airport run car" but I think he will need to send it back up to Bangkok and bring something else down. SFChallenge - I've not driven any further north of Phuket than Khao Lak (only about 1 hour north), so no idea about the road conditions. But most of the highways I've driven are pretty good 99% of the way...it's the 1% under repair or in dire need of repair that catches you off guard and causes problems! A GTC would be better than a Ferrari as it's got better clearance and more suspension travel for the bumps, but don't know if fuel is a problem. Honestly, I think your friend will have a lot more fun in his pershing than you would in a car. Most of the way it's going to be a fairly boring drive, with intermittent white knuckle moments when some idiot does something to make you wonder how they're still alive.
I think he will need to buy some barrels of racing fuel from BKK and send them to phuket if he can. Octane booster wont help.
Yes, it was pretty quiet actually, although I was on a noisy bus. I notice from your profile that amongst many other fantastic classic Fcars you have a BBi. Is this yours?
I have finished putting up all the photos from Chater Rd Concours. You can see them here... http://www.flickr.com/photos/48817379@N03/
